    General Position Description
    The Dean of a School leads the academic, fiscal, and operational areas of a named "school of" within Valencia College in close partnership with the Provost and with colleagues around the College. Responsible for ensuring all facets of School plans are aligned with and fulfill the college's strategic priorities and direction.

    1. Cultivates an environment with a named "school of" that develops and deploys resources that enable faculty and staff to create positive, effective, and innovative learning environments. Supports faculty in developing assessment mechanisms that will document increases in learning.

    2. Recruits and supports exceptional full and part-time faculty and staff who are committed to student learning.

    3. Provides conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation of student, staff and faculty concerns by listening to and evaluating student concerns that are beyond the scope of Student Services, such as concerns involving academic matters, faculty, or instruction, referring unresolved student concerns to the appropriate institutional area.

    4. Formulates strategic plans for the school. In college-wide collaboration, support, manage, and assess school academic and continuing education programs including limited access programs, revenue-generating programs, and programs distributed to multiple campuses.

    5. Works collaboratively with the Provost and other learning leaders' college wide to ensure the effective planning, analysis, and evaluation of academic priorities. Provides leadership in the design, implementation and assessment of school-specific academic and continuing education initiatives and enrollment plans, under the purview of the Provost.

    6. Ensures the integrity of academic and continuing education programs by upholding professional and accreditation standards. With college partners, develops and maintains affiliation agreements.

    7. In support of college, campus, and school priorities, works collaboratively with college-wide professional development leaders to develop, coordinate, and implement orientation and professional development opportunities for faculty and staff. Works closely with the Teaching and Learning Academy to ensure effective implementation of the pre-tenure process.

    8. Represents the school, campus, and the college with local state agencies, secondary and postsecondary institutions, and local employers as it relates to school-specific learning initiatives.

    9. Develops strong partnerships with community stakeholders in support of college and school programming. Understands and contributes to local efforts in economic development.

    10. Supports the development and administers grants to advance the "School of" work .

    11. Supports school and college-related philanthropy and fundraising efforts.

    12. Responsible for developing and allocating assigned budgets. Coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of local budgets and externally funded grants under the purview of the Provost.

    13. Responsible for supervising, developing, and evaluating assigned staff across the "School of".

    14. Fulfills all reporting obligations of an identified "Administrator" in the Valencia College Policy on Child Abuse Reporting (Policy: 6Hx28:10-09)

    15. Responsible for coordinating internal and external communication and promotion of programs, services, student testimonials, and events for the school.

    Required Minimum Education Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
    Required Field of Study
    Fine Arts or related field (Art, Dance, Music, Theater, Graphics, Film/Music Production, etc.)

    Terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution.

    Preferred Type of Experience
    Leadership experience appropriate to a senior leadership role in higher education.

    Experience in teaching and learning, including direct experience in teaching.

    Experience working with arts organizations in the community.

    Experience with student-related issues.

    Experience in applying instructional technologies.

    Experience in financial analysis, budget development and the design and assessment of administrative support systems.

    Experience with grant and grant management.

    Experience in analyzing, interpreting and disseminating student engagement, academic and outcome data.

    Working Conditions

    General Working Conditions
    This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

    Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to frequently using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
