    Description

    Communications and Control Engineer

    Location - Hammond, IN

    Join us as a Senior Engineer and lead Communication & Control projects for a leading electric utility company

    Responsibilities:

    • Design, install, test, and maintain communication (C&C) and SCADA control systems for electric transmission, distribution, and generation.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve C&C system issues.
    • Collaborate with internal teams on substation, communication system, and energy management control system projects.
    • Provide C&C training across the organization for compliance with industry standards.
    • Analyze and troubleshoot C&C schemes across a broad spectrum.
    • Operate and train others on complex electrical test equipment.
    • Analyze system events and provide detailed reports for operational teams.
    • Perform detailed drawing reviews to ensure adherence to client C&C standards.
    • Guide and support external design firms.
    • Work effectively with customers, contractors, and internal teams on complex C&C designs.
    • Manage C&C scoping for capital improvement projects.
    • Lead complex C&D system modernizations & capital projects independently.

    Qualifications:

    • 7-12 years of electric utility experience.
    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
    • Strong understanding of engineering/technical theories and principles.
    • Experience researching technical design issues, evaluating alternatives, and making recommendations.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Leadership experience within a team.
    • Project management skills (PMP Certification a plus).
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

    Technical Expertise:

    • Communication & Control principles
    • Designing complex C&C schemes for substations
    • Comprehensive knowledge of T&D systems, communication configurations, and substation operations
    • Proficiency with engineering PC applications (AutoCAD, Meridian, AcSELerator RTAC, VistaNET, SGConfig, WebFG)
    • Familiarity with client's Communication Management Systems (Cascade, FootPrints, Confluence)

    Additional Requirements:

    • Must meet client's CIP certification guidelines (PRA, LMS training).
    • Ability to travel to various electric substations using own vehicle.
    • Completion of Substation Entry Training (provided by client).
    • Ability to use client-supplied laptops for secure access to RTUs.
    • Experience with GE D20/D200/MX & SEL RTAC 3530 RTUs.
    • Ability to write and force RTAC and GE D20 configurations.
    • Familiarity with RTUs and relays to avoid unintended equipment trips.
    • Ability to work with basic hand tools.
