Certified surgical technologists are responsible for preparing the operating room including but not limited to the sterile field setting up surgical equipment supplies etc During surgery they contribute to patient care by assisting the surgeon with instrumentation supplies specimens and control of the sterile surgical field They are instrumental in preventing foreign retained objects Association of Surgical Technologists 2022
