    The RWJBarnabas Health System Medical/Surgical Nurse Educator, NPD Practitioner/Specialist, is a registered professional nurse who has expertise in Med/Surg nursing with the ability to facilitate education in all related areas. The Educator is expected to create, implement and evaluate the Foundations of Medical/Surgical Nursing Program and assure competency in this area across the RWJBarnabas Health system. This Nurse Educator is a professional nurse with in-depth scientific knowledge, technical expertise, skill, and competence with the ability to effectively teach. They will utilize a collaborative approach to communicate among all care providers to optimize the efficiency and efficacy of patient care.

    Responsibilities

    • Coordinates and manages system educational initiatives related to Med/Surg nursing
    • Uses the educational process and adult principles to bridge the knowledge, skills, and practice gaps determined through needs assessments
    • Designs, implements, and evaluates Orientation, Competency, and Professional Development in the Medical/Surgical areas, including supporting Dedicated Orientation Units, Dedicated Education Units, and Clinical Educational Support based on Needs Assessments
    • Uses change management strategies and theories to produce quality outcomes
    • Works with site Directors of Professional Development to ensure standardization and execution of educational initiatives.
    • Possesses professional communication, education and leadership skills, with appropriate information necessary to develop system education plans
    • Creates, coordinates, and provides ongoing staff development programs, performance improvement initiatives, and special projects related to staff education and professional development throughout RWJBH
    • Provides education that aligns with regulatory, best practice, and evidence-based standards
    • Models behaviors that reflect participation and leadership in activities within the organization, such as serving in key roles on committees and councils
    • Develops plans and presents educational activities within areas of expertise and directly or indirectly fosters the development of competence in the learner
    • Promotes inquiry, the generation of new knowledge, and the use of evidence to advance professional practice, and improve the quality of care
    • Assumes responsibility for projects and is self-directed in autonomously moving forward, while identifying when guidance and/or assistance is needed
    • Travel throughout the RWJBarnabas Health System is required

    This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Professional Development, Innovation, Research & The Institute for Nursing Excellence at RWJBarnabas Health

    Requirements:

    • Master's Degree in Nursing required
    • 3-5 years Med/Surg experience
    • Education experience preferred
    • Current NJ Nursing License
    • Board certification in a nursing specialty is preferred
    • NPD-BC eligible
