    JOB TRAINING DUTIES – GENERAL MESS ATTENDANT

    ARMY TROOP DINING HALL

    NATICK, MA

    ABILITYONE PROGRAM PARTICIPANT

    Reports To: Project Manager Department: AbilityOne

    Job Summary :

    The General Mess Attendant Trainee position is responsible for transporting all items for the serving line and beverage dispensers from the preparation and storage area. Providing food and garnish to assist the cooks and providing dining hall/back of the house cleaning as required. To see that the Dining Hall is maintained in a clean and orderly fashion at all times including, at the individual tables/booths, refilling/replacing the napkin dispensers, S&P shakers and condiments. Spot clean and/or vacuum the floor as to present the Dining Hall as a clean and welcoming environment. Maintain the Rest Rooms to a clean and sanitary standard including re-stocking soap and paper dispensers. Maintain the stock room in a clean environment under the supervision of the Project or Operations Manager(s).

    The General Mess Attendant Trainee will also fully engage in required training, meetings with their case manager, work supervisor and Project Manager to discuss their work skills and areas that need to be improved upon.

    Essential Functions:

    Responsible for:

  • Busing and cleaning dining hall tables and booths.
  • Checking and as needed cleaning seating surfaces.
  • Using the dishwasher to load used dishes/utensils and unload clean dishes/utensils for storage.
  • Replenishment of dishes and utensils for patron use.
  • Cleaning and serving fountain dispensing stations.
  • Transporting prepared food items from kitchen to serving stations.
  • Serving patrons food items from serving stations or lines.
  • Maintaining all facility floors in a clean condition.
  • Set up of serving lines between 15-20 minutes prior to scheduled serving hours.
  • Maintain and fill all condiment and beverage dispensers as needed.

    Qualification/Education/Experience:

    1.) Certified Documented Disability consistent with AbilityOne Regulations.

    2.) Dining Facility experience – preferably Military

    Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of equipment literature and cleaning products.
  • Communication Demands:

  • The ability to read and write English.
  • The ability to respond to common inquiries of complaints or questions.
  • Willingness to accept constructive feedback and practice skill sets based on supervisor evaluation.
  • Environmental Demands:

    The work is performed in a non-smoking environment. The work is normally performed

    in a kitchen environment. The work environment characteristics described here are

    General requirements:

    1. Good standing balance, defined as the ability to stand and walk without a loss of

    Full shoulder flexion, extension, abduction, and rotation.

    Full elbow flexion, extension, supination and pronation.

    Full wrist flexion, extension, radial and ulnar deviation.

    3 Normal upper extremity strength defined as the ability to move the specified

    body part through a full range of motion against maximum resistance.

    4. Full lower extremity range of motion defined as the ability to obtain:

    Full hip flexion, extension, abduction, adduction and rotation.

    Full knee flexion and extension.

    Full ankle flexion and extension.

    5. Normal lower extremity strength defined as the ability to move the specified

    body part through a full range of motion against maximum resistance.

    6. Full trunk range of motion as defined by the ability to obtain full flexion and

    extension, rotation and side bending.

    7. Full cervical range of motion as defined by the ability to obtain full flexion and

    extension, lateral flexion and rotation.

    *Continuous: Standing, hearing, bending, lifting, walking

    *Frequent: Reaching, talking, lifting

    *Occasional: Sitting, Stooping

    *Rarely: Climbing stairs

    *Definitions: continuous -- 66 to 100% of the time

    frequent -- 31 to 65% of the time

    occasional -- 10 to 30% of the time

    rarely -- less than 10% of the time
