    About The RoleWere looking for a Staff Software Engineer who enjoys being a thought leader in the Cloud Infrastructure and Observability space.

    Our team is responsible for designing and maintaining networking infrastructure, observability tooling, and internal developer tooling that enable the Finops and documentation functions within the SmartThings Cloud Platform.


    Key Responsibilities In this role, you will:
    Design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure networking architecture meets existing and future requirements.

    Design, develop, implement, deploy, and maintain Cloud Network Infrastructure:
    VPN, proxies, routes, AWS VPC, transit gateways, and load balancers.
    Test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining network infrastructure.
    Optimize cost, reliability, performance, supportability, and security of infrastructure.

    Serve as a technical leader on projects, working closely with Cloud teams to solve challenging problems and develop new features.

    Understand observability capabilities and work with SRE to understand areas to improve and extend.

    Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior team membersLead technical discussions with key stakeholders (engineering, product, etc.) through documented approaches and value propositions.

    Participate in cross-functional design discussions and code reviews.

    Even if you arent certain you meet every requirement, we encourage you to applyWhat You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications)Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering/compatible experience8+ years of experience in a Cloud Infrastructure role or Observability spaceExperience with AWS Cloud and infrastructure productStrong understanding of network protocols, routing, switching, VPN, VPC, load balancing, and security protocols.

    Experience with infrastructure automation (eg. using Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)Observability tooling (logging, telemetry, APM)Customer-focused and interested in enabling SmartThings cloud platform.

    Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work well in a diverse, team-focused environmentExcellent communication skillsDesired SkillsAzure DevOpsSRE background (runbook, playbook, incident management)Feature flags, Canary, etc.
