    Overview

    News Assistant Arts position at WETA, Arlington, Virginia. The News Assistant program provides recent graduates practical experience in a broadcast news setting, with rotations through the arts unit, control room, studio shifts, and digital news production.

    Responsibilities

    • Log video feeds.
    • Research stories and potential interview subjects.
    • Assist producers on field shoots.
    • Contribute to digital content and online post-production.
    • Perform related special projects or other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Excellent writing and research skills.
    • Demonstrated interest in journalism and/or television production.
    • Professional phone manner and solid administrative skills.
    • Strong work ethic and effective time management.
    • Knowledge of PBS NewsHours journalistic style.

    Education

    • Bachelors degree.
    • Prior experience in a broadcast news setting preferred.
    • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Location

    WETA and NewsHour Productions are based in Washington, DC. Most positions in Arlington, VA office are onsite or hybrid, depending on the role.
