    Job Title: Biological Science Technician (Fish) at Green River Basin Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office



    Summary

    This role is a permanent, career-seasonal position for a Biological Science Technician (Fish). The selected candidate will be based in Vernal, Utah at the Green River Basin Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office.


    This position is open to the public under announcement R LP-DE. Applicants must apply to each announcement separately to be considered under both recruitment methods.

    Duties
    - This is a Career-Seasonal position, which may involve periods of non-pay/non-duty status ranging from 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions.
    - The incumbent is guaranteed to work at least 6 months annually, with a maximum of 50 weeks per year, and the work schedule will be determined upon appointment.
    - It's a Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment with work/pay status for a specified period each year, typically from March through September.
    - The primary mission of the office is to recover three endangered fishes native to the upper Colorado River basin: Colorado pike minnow, bonytail, and razorback sucker.
    - Responsibilities involve conducting recovery activities on the Yampa River, the White River, and the Green River in Colorado and Utah.

    Key Responsibilities
    - Conducting Fish Surveys, Studies, and Field Investigations:
    The role involves participating in multifaceted fish studies, carrying out research and survey methods, analyzing data, and monitoring environmental elements related to fish conservation.
    - Collection and Analysis of Data:
    Identifying and collecting data for studies, logging samples/data for analysis, using laboratory equipment for standardized tasks, compiling and summarizing survey data, and assisting in report preparation.

    Job Requirements
    - Physical Demands:
    Physical requirements vary depending on the project and tasks involved. Activities may include rowing inflatable boats, netting fish, standing/walking on wet and rocky surfaces, bending, kneeling, climbing, and carrying heavy items.
    - Work Environment:
    The position involves working in and around running water, exposure to extreme weather conditions, insects/wildlife, and the use of protective gear like personal flotation devices, waders, boots, coats, and more to mitigate risks.
