Job Description:
Our site near Culpeper, VA, in beautiful, rural Orange County (1.5 hours from Washington, DC) is growing This site is our center of excellence for Solid Rocket Motor Propulsion and Energetics development as well as high-complexity production programs.
Position supports the Propulsion Materials and Process Engineering team performing assignments requiring an application of advanced principles, theories and concepts in the propulsion field with a working knowledge of other related disciplines (thermal, structural, ballistics).
Responsible for leading (technical), organizing (cost and schedule), and implementing tasks directed by a Technical Manager (Department Manager, Technical Fellow, or equivalent) and providing chemical guidance.
Specifying chemical testing, evaluation of data, and preparing and presenting reports of results are typical of the job function.Essential Functions:
Performs assignments requiring an application of advanced principles, theories and concepts in the propulsion field with an emphasis on propellant chemistry technology and manufacturing with a working knowledge of other related disciplines (ballistic, thermal and structural).
Experience in process control, lean manufacturing best practices, and manufacturing operations experience of items such as propellants, explosives and liners is desired.
Ability to obtain US security clearance.Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior material process engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior material process engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior material process engineering experience.
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Master's or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering or related science discipline preferred.
Knowledge of chemical principles, thermodynamics, polymer chemistry, structure/property relationships, kinetics, and data analysis is essential.
Experience with energetic materials, statistical analysis, programming and experimental set-up and data acquisition is a plus.
