    Job Summary

    The Hematology/Blood and Marrow Transplant Coordinator facilitates the clinical and educational aspects of the Hematology/Blood and Marrow Transplant Program.

    Collaborates in ongoing strategic planning and development of program with the medical director, DON, nurse managers, and the outpatient hematology/transplant program in regards to design and functionality of the program including but not limited to:
    Ensuring that the Blood and Marrow Program meets the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) standards. Participating in weekly interdisciplinary meetings to discuss patients' plans of care and to prepare for upcoming admissions.

    Represents inpatient transplant program in monthly and quarterly quality assurance (QA) meetings and prepares reports and audits as required by the program.

    Develops ongoing educational opportunities for nursing staff.

    Serves as a clinical expert, provides support to nursing, and validates nursing competency in skills related to care of the patients in the program.

    Ensures continuity of patient care from admission to discharge through patient rounding and communication with primary nursing team, physicians, and other disciplines.

    Demonstrates expertise in customer service, leadership, and highly-developed analytical skills. The Hematology/Blood and Marrow Transplant Coordinator utilizes outcomes based research to promote growth in clinical knowledge of evidence-based practice.

    Accountabilities

    *CLINICAL PRACTICE: Manages and promotes delivery of quality care for Hematology/Blood and Marrow Transplant population across the entire continuum of care. Utilizes interactive processes to achieve program goals. Maintains active role in problem identification and problem solving based on current research and professional practice standards.

    • Maximize awareness and utilization of resources and services among patients, families and staff.
    • Synthesizes and applies advanced clinical knowledge.
    • Analyzes and formulates quality improvement projects based upon findings.
    • Demonstrates continuous evaluation of various processes related to the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy using quality indicators identified annually. - 35%
    • CONSULTANT/

    COLLABORATOR:
    Provide clinical guidance within specialty area. Assists others in the advancement of clinical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving techniques. Serves as a link between academia and the clinical setting. Serves as clinical resource to others. - 20%
    *LEADERSHIP: Participates in multidisciplinary conferences and committees. Represents front line nursing staff and their ideas to leadership and the multidisciplinary team, offers solutions to problems, and provides feedback/reports solutions back to nursing staff. Advances clinical knowledge through inquiry and research based practice.

    • Actively pursue solutions to programmatic problems.
    • Actively participates in clinical advancement.

    *QUALITY ASSURANCE: Actively participate in quality assurance activities. Monitor regulatory compliance within program. Evaluate patient population for trends and risk factors; recommends innovative strategies to improve quality and outcomes services. Negotiates effective practice changes. Collaborates with all disciplines to identify systems and processes to improve patient outcomes.

    • Assess the quality of care provided to Hematology/Blood and Marrow Transplant patients.
    • Develops and collaborates with others to implement changes to improve care and outcomes. - 20%
    *PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Develops own professional role. Obtain national certification. Maintains membership and actively participates in at least one professional organization. Participates in hospital and/or program specific committees. Remains current with literature as demonstrated by presentation(s) to staff and incorporating new knowledge into clinical practice. - 5%

    Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

    This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

    Minimum Requirements


    • Bachelor's Degree - Nursing
    • 3 years including 2 years in oncology.
    In Lieu Of

    In Lieu of the education and experience requirements noted above, will accept MSN and 2 years oncology experience.

    Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses


    • RN - REGISTERED NURSE - NLRN
    Knowledge, Skills or Abilities


    • Basic computer skill including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and data entry
    • Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)
    • Mathematical skills
    • Patient Equip (Vitals, Suctions, Defib)
    • Bone Marrow Transplant Experience- Preferred
    • MSN - Preferred
    • Oncology Certified Nurse - Preferred
