The Brown Collegiate Scholars Program (BCSP) is a four-year, year-round college access program for students living and learning in Providence. The Program seeks to empower academically motivated public school students who live and learn in Providence to explore their interests and strengthen their academic preparation in order to identify, select, afford and attend colleges that align with their aspirations. As a reflection of the University's approach to student-centered learning, focus will be on developing student agency as a means for self-reflection, exploration, and self-determination. Particular attention will be focused on serving students who are the first in their families to go to college and/or who have limited financial resources.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Brown Collegiate Scholars Program, the Program Advisor is responsible for coaching incoming Providence Public School District (PPSD) high school students through their high school career and guiding students on their college application process, coordinating opportunities for students to explore colleges, securing advantageous financial aid packages and supporting their transition to college. This work will happen through one-on-one advising meetings and group workshops for students and families in coordination with other BCSP staff both virtually and in-person. A team of Program Advisors will support students in the Program, each engaging with a single cohort of students for four years. As a member of the BCSP team, the Program Advisor will receive training and ongoing support from BCSP and will participate in regular team meetings. This position will also facilitate college visits to a select group of colleges and universities in New England. Program Advisors will also be able to research and advocate for internal or external resources beyond those associated with BCSP.
