    Everyone does not have the ability and skill set for difficult skilled and technical work relating to the repair, installation, maintenance, and construction of municipal wastewater gravity systems, wastewater force mains, and laterals, and the Department of Public Utilities recognizes that.

    Public Utilities is seeking motivated and energetic individuals to assist the Maintenance and Operations Division.

    Duties include but are not limited to:
    Loads and unloads gravel, dirt, timber, chemicals, or other materials, tools, and equipment.
    Assists in the unstopping of sanitary sewer mainline and service laterals.

    Cuts grass and trees, and rakes leaves. Digs shallow trenches and ditches; assists in installing pipes; cleans catch basins, manholes, and sewer lines.


    Performs maintenance functions such as greasing pumps, motors, and shafts; replacing valves; wet well cleaning, performs light repairs and installations as directed.


    Operates hand and power tools and equipment to support maintenance operations such as debris removal, digging or filling, and other maintenance tasks.

    Picks up paper and debris on public property and streets.

    Performs various street maintenance duties such as cleaning gutters, raking and spreading asphalt, or patching holes.

    Serves as traffic flagger on street utility projects. Assists with setting up forms and pouring concrete.
    Interacts with customers to provide routine information.

    Must pass all work zone and flag training tests given.

    Occasionally drive only if the applicant meets the requirements of the city driving standards.

    Performs other related duties as assigned.


    Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of, and/or outside of, their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

    Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.


    Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

    Requires instruction that is sufficient for satisfactory job performance.

    Preferred Qualifications Previous construction or utility maintenance work would be helpful, but not necessary.
