    Job ProfileSummary

    This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Mammography duties: Evaluates physical conditions related to medical imaging of breast tissue.A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience.This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs.An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education.Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.

    Job Overview

    Under the direction of the clinical supervision, performs a wide variety of duties to provide mammography services for patientsin accordance withphysician orders.Position requires minimal supervision, independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative whilemaintainingthe standards necessary to allow Radiologist to makean accurateinterpretation. Assumes responsibility for designated areas, and procedures.Participates in Quality Assurance program and relative clerical aspects asrequired.

    Job Description

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1. Graduate of approved School of Radiological Technology.

    2.Mammographylicense.

    3. Americanof American Registry of Radiological Technologist (AART) in Radiology.

    4.One (1) year of experience in mammography.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    1.Three(3) yearsof experience in mammography.

    Duties and Responsibilities:Theduties and responsibilities listedbeloware intended to describe the general nature of workandare not intended to be an all-inclusive list.Other dutiesand responsibilitiesmay be assigned.

    1.Identifiespatient and reviews eachrequisition, for consistency of order with clinical diagnosis and demographic information. Records patient history accurately noting unusual conditions/ limitations, difficulties.

    2.Anticipatesand responds appropriately to patient needs, assuring personal patients.Detects and responds to all symptoms of anxiety with tact and compassion.

    3.Operatesmammography equipment, including biopsy device asrequested, using proper exposure factors producing high quality images with complete anatomy and no technical errors.

    4.Operatesbone densitometry equipment to produce quality images for radiologist interpretation to include comparison imaging.

    5.Provides clear explanation of exam to patient and verbally reviews all information onmammohistory sheet with patient to ensure accuracy

    6.Reviews each examination for technicalaccuracy, anddoes notsubmitfilms that are technically inadequate. Documents any problems inattainingsatisfactory results.Knows to takeadditionalviews as needed.Adheres to ALARA policy by keeping repeat imaging to a minimum

    7.Identifiesanatomical orientation on all requiredimages, andensures proper film identification on all images.

    8.Prepares exams byprovidingprior images and/or sufficient informationregardingoutside images to be obtained quickly and efficiently to decrease delay in radiologic interpretation.Properly reviewsimages to confirm adequate transfer to PACS.

    9.Providespatient education and instruction to include breast self-examination, importance and frequency of clinical breast exams and mammography.

    10.Is competent tooperateall equipment and uses ancillary apparatus asrequiredor has requested training in the specific areas.Adjusts controls of machine in compliance with established methods and procedures.

    11.Performs QA procedures asrequiredin accordance withACR, MQSA, States and JACHO standards.

    Physical Requirements:

    1.Stands and walks most of the day with frequent lifting and pushing of light to heavy patients and equipment, working in reaching and strained position part of the day and necessity of constant carrying of x-ray cassettes with lead aprons worn during many procedures.

    2.Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation tooperateradiology equipment.

    3.Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform examinations,observepatients, read monitors and documents. Hear equipment alarms.

    4.Frequent exposure to blood, fecalwasteand other body waste withpossible riskof infection.

    5.Hazards of radiation exposure, on-going and accumulative especially in fluoroscopy and portable exams.

    6.Works in semi-dark areas such as darkrooms and fluoroscopy room.

    Skills&Abilities:

    1. Knowledge of medical terminology

    2. Clerical skills

    3. Basic computer skills

    4. Ability to follow directions and detailed oriented

    5. Good customer service abilities

    6. General knowledge of RIS and PACSsystem.

    7.Ability to respond appropriately to emergency patient conditions.

    8.Ability to use steriletechniqueto prevent contamination whenappropriate.

    9.Ability toacquireand effectivelyutilizeknowledge of a wide variety of radiographic procedures.

    10. Knowledge and skills necessary toprovidecareappropriate tothe age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area.
