    Description

    Job Description:

    • To fully engage in providing quality patient care in the operating room under the direction of the R.N, performing technical activities related to surgical procedures. Support activities may include assisting in the functioning of the Surgical Department and patient care plan.

    Primary Accountabilities:

    • Quality/No Harm:
    • Prepares and organizes supplies for surgical procedures in a cost-effective way.
    • Assists in maintaining a clean O.R. environment.
    • Demonstrates competency in setting up for procedures.
    • Anticipates needs during operative procedures.
    • Handles instruments and equipment properly.
    • Participates in performance improvement activities.
    • Displays a positive demeanor towards patients and colleagues.
    • Participates in patient data recording.
    • Supports new technical personnel.
    • Follows infection control policies.
    • Utilizes computer systems for daily tasks.
    • Maintains professional communication with various stakeholders.

    Customer Experience:

    • Participates in training sessions and mandatory meetings.
    • Shares responsibility for O.R. call coverage.
    • Completes annual requirements promptly.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of AORN standards.
    • Handles specimens accurately.
    • Enhances patient experience and satisfaction.

    Stewardship:

    • Provides optimal patient care services.
    • Interacts effectively with the medical staff.
    • Maintains good working relationships within the patient care team.
    • Responds helpfully in times of high patient activity.
    • Builds rapport with doctor's office personnel.
    • Maintains professional relationships with vendors.

    Qualifications Required:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • 3-5 years' experience as a Surgical Technologist preferred.
    • Certification preferred.
    • Must hold current AHA/CPR Healthcare Provider Completion Card.

    Physical Demands:

    • Exposure to biohazardous substances.
    • Normal vision and hearing range.
    • Standing and sitting for long periods.
    • Lifting and carrying patients or objects.
    • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted.

    Mental Demands:

    • Working under stressful situations.
    • Continuous concentration on tasks.
    • Ability to follow instructions.
