The Gap at Sawmill Meadow exists to cultivate wholeness in new adults so they launch thriving in purpose and responsibility—creating space for discovery, practice, and processing so that young adults launch into the world rooted in Christ, grounded in purpose, and prepared for responsibility. We believe transformation happens not through haste or performance, but through faithful presence, intentional community, and a shared life with Jesus.

    Position Overview

The Program/Discipleship Director serves as the spiritual and formational shepherd of The Gap community and program. This role provides theological vision, pastoral leadership, and discipleship oversight for students, staff, and the rhythms that shape daily life together.

The Director ensures that all programming, teaching, and community practices are deeply rooted in Scripture and oriented toward apprenticeship to Jesus—helping students learn how to be with Christ before deciding what to do in the world.

This role directly supervises the Host Couple, resident advisors, interns, and program coordinators (including marketing and communications) and works closely with the Executive Director to cultivate a Christ-centered culture marked by humility, honesty, responsibility, and love.

    Key Responsibilities

    Spiritual Formation & Discipleship Leadership

    • Design, teach, and oversee discipleship programming, spiritual practices, small groups, retreats, and mentorship pathways.
    • Establish a cohesive formation framework that integrates theology, daily rhythms, identity in Christ, work, rest, and communal life.
    • Ensure all teaching and programming consistently points students toward a deeper relationship and obedience to Jesus.
    • Lead students in practices such as prayer, Scripture engagement, confession, forgiveness, Sabbath, and discernment.

    Pastoral Care & Student Shepherding

    • Provide ongoing pastoral care through regular one-on-one conversations, spiritual direction, and relational check-ins.
    • Walk with students through seasons of growth, doubt, conflict, and discernment with wisdom and compassion.
    • Guide healthy conflict resolution and teach biblical practices for reconciliation, accountability, and restored relationships.
    • Serve as a steady, prayerful presence in the daily life of the community.
    • Supervise, mentor, and support the Host Couple, interns, and program coordinators through regular communication, encouragement, and accountability.
    • Model servant leadership rooted in Christlike humility, emotional maturity, and integrity.
    • Partner with the Executive Director on staff hiring, onboarding, training, and spiritual formation.
    • Foster a staff culture marked by unity, shared responsibility, and spiritual depth.

    Program Coordination & Community Rhythms

    • Collaborate with staff to shape weekly schedules, seasonal rhythms, retreats, and special events.
    • Ensure programming is both spiritually intentional and operationally sustainable.
    • Work alongside marketing and communications staff to support storytelling that faithfully reflects the mission, values, and lived experience of The Gap community.

Community Standards, Risk Management & Accountability

    • Uphold community guidelines with clarity, grace, and consistency.
    • Document pastoral concerns and collaborate with leadership to appropriately support student needs.
    • Help cultivate a safe, healthy, joy-filled environment where students can grow in responsibility and freedom.

    Qualifications

    • A vibrant, growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a demonstrated commitment to Christian discipleship.
    • Experience in pastoral ministry, young adult discipleship, or spiritual formation.
    • Ability to lead with warmth, theological clarity, humility, and emotional intelligence.
    • Strong communication, organization, and conflict-resolution skills.
    • Passion for shepherding emerging adults toward spiritual maturity, purpose, and responsibility.
    • Bachelor's degree required; theological education or ministry training strongly preferred.

    Personal Characteristics

    • Spiritually grounded, emotionally mature, and relationally present.
    • A servant-leader who embodies the values and rhythms of The Gap at Sawmill Meadow.
    • Comfortable with ambiguity and patient with long-term, slow formation.
    • Consistent, prayerful, and faithful in daily presence and leadership.
