- Evaluate medication orders to ensure accuracy and appropriateness
- Assure pharmacokinetic assessment of drug dosing on appropriate patients
- Communicate with prescribers on patient medication needs

- Pharm. D. (Doctor of Pharmacy) degree or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
- One (1) year of applicable inpatient hospital pharmacy experience is required. Years of applicable experience include the time spent completing an ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency.
- Current licensure by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners is required. Includes those eligible for obtaining this licensure.

- Job related experience with and/or commitment to service excellence
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Experience in hospital pharmacy setting is highly desired
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or eligibility for completing BLS and ACLS certifications
- Satisfactory completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency in pharmacy
- Satisfactory completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY2 residency in Critical Care or another specialized area
- At least 6 months of clinical experience providing pharmaceutical care to patients in critical care areas

The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Pharmaceutical Care, is seeking a full-time Clinical Pharmacist for Critical Care.This full-time clinical pharmacist is responsible for all aspects of pharmaceutical care for adult patients in critical care areas/units including but not limited to the: Cardiovascular Intensive Care, Medical Intensive Care, Surgical and Neurosciences Intensive Care, and the Burn Intensive Care.
Additionally, the clinical pharmacist may be trained to the intermediate care/step-down units to assist with coverage as needed. The position will have rotating shifts including weekdays, weekends, and evenings.Clinical pharmacists at UIHC are involved in all aspects of patient care including, but not limited to, therapeutic drug monitoring, admission and discharge medication reconciliation, medication education, and precepting pharmacy learners.
In addition to all members of the pharmacy team, they collaborate daily with other healthcare providers including, but not limited to, licensed independent practitioners, medical students and residents, nurses, and social workers and care coordinators.

Provides Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM)
University of Iowa Health Care is a teaching institution; therefore, the clinical pharmacist is responsible for the education of students, residents, fellow staff, other healthcare providers, and patients about drugs and their appropriate use.
The educational process crosses professional boundaries, as the clinical pharmacist interacts with and serves as an informational resource for other members of the health care team.
The clinical pharmacist takes great care to instruct all patients about the need for and appropriate use of prescribed medications.
