    Position Overview:

    The Agriculture Inspector position falls under the Livestock and Poultry Program within the Animal Industry Division, focusing on monitoring, inspecting, investigating, collecting samples, and other relevant activities for the GDA Livestock and Poultry Program.

    Description of Job Duties:

    • Inspect agricultural commodities, equipment, and facilities; fish and logging operations to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
    • Assist in sample collection for identification and analysis of petroleum products, pests, or suspected diseased animals.
    • Inspect horticultural products, livestock, and livestock medication effectiveness.
    • Examine commodities like poultry, eggs, meat, and seafood for certification of wholesomeness, grade, and weight.
    • Conduct facility and equipment inspections to ensure accuracy, sanitation, and regulatory compliance.
    • Prepare reports on findings, provide recommendations, and guide vendors, farmers, and processors on necessary corrective actions.

    Job Summary:

    • Perform inspections at various locations involving livestock, exotics, and poultry.
    • Identify livestock to prevent diseases and maintain regulatory compliance.
    • Respond to animal health complaints and oversee compliance.
    • Monitor animal exhibitions for disease detection.
    • Collect and test samples from cattle, swine, sheep, goats, and poultry.
    • Handle animal emergencies, issue quarantines and permits, and submit reports.
    • Maintain precise records of work activities, inspections, and field actions.
    • Record all data in the official database as per directives.
    • Perform other assigned duties, including shift work.

    Physical Demands:

    • Outdoor exposure for extended periods.
    • Endure strong smells and temperatures.
    • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. when required.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Agriculture Inspector 1 – $37,

    Vocational or technical degree in relevant fields, high school diploma or GED with experience, or college education in chemistry or life sciences.

    Agriculture Inspector 2 – $40,

    Similar educational qualifications as Inspector 1.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Preference for a bachelor's degree in related fields or ownership/management experience in agricultural businesses. Proficiency in animal industry, livestock, and Windows systems; experience in livestock handling, inspection, and report preparation. Effective communication skills, decision-making abilities, and establishing positive relationships.
