    $500 BONUS

    $250 ON FIRST CHECK AND $250 AFTER 120-DAYS OF EMPLOYMENT

    We are looking for a Garbage Collector to join the City of Charleston's Public Service division In this role, you will be responsible for collecting refuse and placing it in collection trucks.
    Examples of Duties
    • Places refuse in the collection vehicle by picking up the container manually or using a semi-automatic container lifting system.
    • Uses a broom or shovel or other means to safely pick up loose or spilled garbage.
    • Places empty cans off street, away from mailboxes after emptying in a neat and tidy manner.
    • Spots for driver when the collection vehicle is reversing.
    • Assists the driver with other routine vehicle checks and maintenance/
    • Responsible for maintaining their assigned safety equipment and using it properly at all times.
    • Fills out appropriate paperwork.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Basic Qualifications
    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 6 months of similar experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
