    Summary:
    Reporting to the Manager of Custodial Services, the Supervisor provides supervision of custodians and performs all administrative functions pertaining to area of responsibility.

    Job Description:
    • Provides daily on-site supervision of all activities of custodians for task completion and quality of performance; and performs all administrative supervisory functions for Custodial Services staff including leave requests and employee evaluations.
    • Monitors and inspects all phases of custodial services to ensure consistent standard of cleanliness and quality; performs duties related to the interior cleanliness and arrangements pertaining to area of responsibility; and spends majority of working time assisting in the completion of all custodial assignments.
    • Schedules work to ensure completion of all duties when absences occur or when shifting workload demands.
    • Processes work orders generated through the Service Center; and documents actual work performed, hours required and supplies needed.
    • Assists the Manager in performing weekly inspection tours of campus buildings; and follows-up on all building inspection tour findings.
    • Assists in interviewing job applicants; and disciplines and recommends dismissal, where warranted.
    • Assigns equipment and tools; notes location of same and accounts for their status; conducts monthly visual inventory of same; and reports discrepancies to Manager.
    • Schedules work orders; and prepares a detailed written report for the Manager on all work orders undertaken.
    • Assists in developing and documenting work assignments for all existing and new facilities for equal distribution of work assignments to ensure the care and upkeep of all facilities.
    • Inventories and orders supplies and equipment; monitors the use of these supplies in the buildings; keeps all Custodial closets clean, supplies properly arranged and labeled, and all equipment clean and accounted for at all times; and maintains a program of inventory for supplies and equipment used in each building.
    • Provides for the Manager written reports on associate time and attendance, workplace safety practices, misconduct and employee work performance via staff evaluations.
    • Addresses customer service correspondence with regard to daily operations of the Custodial Services department.
    • Checks the daily time cards to verify attendance of the employees and ensures accuracy with.
    • Discusses quality of jobs and job performances with Custodians; and refers unresolved problems to the Manager.
    • Writes reports to the Manager, as specified, on all accomplished work assignments, broken equipment, and needed repairs on lights, restrooms, doors, air conditioners, leaks and broken windows.
    • Possesses a thorough knowledge and sound understanding of the agreement between the Service Employees International Union, Local 82, AFL-CIO and Gallaudet University.
    • Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
    • Demonstrates a genuine commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.
    • Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
    • Performs related and other duties as needed.
    Required Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • A minimum of seven years of experience with housekeeping, building services, or a related field (A Bachelor's degree with three years of experience in the above-mentioned area will be considered).
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Valid driver's license.
    • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.
    Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong ability to perform the various administrative duties related to the position.
    • Strong knowledge of various types of floor coverings, cleaning materials, general cleaning and interior/exterior window cleaning.
    • Strong ability to use a variety of computer software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint).
    • Strong ability to work independently, show initiative as well as high degree of problem solving.
    • Strong ability to work and represent Campus Services and the University effectively with individuals and groups.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents and groups.
    • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
    Additional Position Details:
    • The incumbent is expected to achieve an ASLPI score of 1 plus within two years of employment. If the incumbent is hired with some knowledge of American Sign Language, the incumbent is expected to achieve an ASLPI score of 2 within two years of employment.

    • The successful candidate will undergo a background check that must be cleared prior to working at Gallaudet University.
