    Diesel Technician- 3rd ShiftDescriptionWe are looking for a talented Diesel Technician to join our team in Grand Rapids, MI specializing in engine repairs for our Distribution Business.

    In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
    Complete repairs on engine products in a service shop Perform maintenance/repairs utilizing diagnostic tools. Maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles. Adhere to Cummins Health, Safety & Environmental policies. Ongoing development/certifications on new and existing Cummins products Maintain own tools.

    In order to be successful in this role you will need the following:
    (Intermediate): Completes complex internal engine repairs. Performs engine overhauls with limited direct supervision.

    (Advanced):
    Ability to troubleshoot with limited/no support from diagnostic tools Larger more complicated engine rebuilds. Mentor junior technicians including technical support and documentation. Education, Licenses, CertificationsApprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred)


    Vocational diploma from relevant technical institutionLocally valid driving permit (Preferred)This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

    ExperienceAdvanced level knowledge of and/or experience with engine productsExperience providing technical advice and coaching to more junior technicians (preferred)This opening is for third shift in shop engine tech level 3.

    Third shift is Mon
    • Thur from 9pm 7am.
    This position requires a state of Michigan mechanic's certificate in diesel engine repair within the first 90 days of employment.
    This position will require a completed DMV driving report but no Driver Qualification file. CANDIDATE MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD AND HAVE 2 YEARS DRIVING EXPERIENCE. This position will be part of the FTA pool.

    A current valid license is required for this role Must be 18 years old with 2 years driving experience This role requires a 5 year motor vehicle report, free from major violations This position is subject to Federal Transit Administration random and pre-employment drug testing requirements.

    This roll will be subject to on-going random drug and alcohol testing. Compensation and BenefitsBase salary rate commensurate with experience.

    Service Documentation
    • Creates and verifies customer, equipment and technical information; captures specific data using required service tools; follows procedures and documents required information in the service management system in order to have an accurate record of the work done.

    Technical Escalation
    • Obtains product technical issue information and utilizes available resources including data management tools; elevates issues to a higher level of expertise, balancing timeliness of customer response with investigation efforts; captures all troubleshooting steps in the appropriate database in order to ensure seamless transitions and accurate response to ticket resolution in a timely manner.

    Diagnostics Application
    • Translates customer complaints to develop troubleshooting plan; troubleshoots issue following guided work flows, procedures, specialized equipment such as mechanical and electronic service tools, and diagnoses computer software to isolate failed components to enable a successful repair; validates repair by duplicating complaint to ensure it has been resolved; documents results of troubleshooting in business systems to communicate what has been done for payment and historical tracking.
    Electronic Service Tool Application
    • Identifies the suite of available hardware and software tools required for a service event; utilizes the appropriate electronic tool set to maintain the product or diagnose and troubleshoot an issue; interprets electronic tool results or recommendations to determine next steps for service resolution.
    Product Repair and Maintenance
    • Repairs and maintains mechanical/electrical products following guidelines, using required tools within standard repair time to ensure a quality repair; disassembles and assembles engines or power generators following guidelines, using required tools to ensure a clean and organized environment; inspects and replaces parts and components following re use guidelines to minimize customers cost of ownership; performs progressive damage check following guidelines to restore to pre failure condition.

    Engine Systems Interactions
    • Interprets and analyzes the interactions of internal and external electrical and mechanical systems (exhaust, heating, cooling, fuel systems, driveline, aftertreatment, controls, sensors, etc.)
    by applying tools, service publications (Cummins, Original Equipment Manufacturer) and taking measurements to efficiently and correctly diagnose and repair.

    • Champions and models proactive health and safety behaviors by identifying, reporting and participating in actions to improve health and safety in order to build an interdependent culture and contribute to an injury free workplace.

    Third shift runs Monday
    • Thursday from 9pm 7am.
    State of Michigan mechanic's certification in heavy duty engine repair is required within the first 90 days of employment.

    This position does not require a CDL but would be nice to have, a CDL may be required to obtain upon hire.

    A CDL may be required to obtain upon hire Federal law requires a CDL holder to be 21 years of age or older This position will require a completed DMV driving report but no Driver Qualification file.
