    POSITION SUMMARY


    Specialized physician responsible for diagnosing, treating, and helping prevent diseases of women, especially those affecting the reproductive system and the process of pregnancy and childbirth.

    Provides high-quality primary or acute healthcare services for certain acute or chronic health conditions in specific populations in accordance with applicable scope, standards of practice and Wexford Health's policies, values, and Company mission.


    • Provides appropriate diagnosis, treatment and prevention of general health problems, but focuses primarily on ailments specific to the female anatomy, such as breast and cervical cancer, urinary tract and pelvic disorders, and hormonal disorders.
    • Records patient medical history and physical assessment, develops therapeutic care plan, orders diagnostic tests, interprets test results, performs discharge planning and provides accurate medical record documentation.
    • Communicates and coordinates patient care with patient, community health services and interdisciplinary team. Involves nursing staff regarding plan of care and involves Site Medical Director in clinical decision making of any issues that are outside his/her knowledge base or scope.
    • Prepares written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances; administers medication and injections; sutures wounds and provides wound care.
    • Educates patients regarding health and preventive medicine, medications prescribed, treatment instructions and recommends community resources as appropriate.
    • Participates, develops, and implements performance and/or quality improvement initiatives.
    • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies.
    • Serves as the clinical expert and acts as a clinical resource.
    • Demonstrates proficiency with Wexford Health Sources internal and external information technology platforms (e.g. electronic medical records, telemedicine, etc.) Demonstrates proficiency in necessary computer skills and Wexford Health technology platforms.
    • Actively participates in Wexford Health collegial reviews, regional and site management meetings/committees as requested.
    • Serves on appropriate task forces, committees, and regional, county, and community agencies/ boards representing the organization when requested and/or approved by the Site Manager or Site Medical Director.
    • Makes presentations to the professional community in order to enhance the visibility and image of the organization when requested/approved by the Site Manager or Site Medical Director.
    • Responsible for maintaining appropriate collegial/professional relationships within the referral region with specialists, hospitalists, ancillary providers, transport providers, community and tertiary hospitals, and all other support groups that may be called upon to provide health care services for the patient population.
    • Maintains the confidentiality of inmate records.
    • Accepts other duties as assigned by the Regional Manager or Regional Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    TRAVEL:

    LICENSING:

    • Must have a current, valid Physician license in the state of Illinois
    • Board certification in OB/GYN specialty preferred.

    CERTIFICATION:

    Current CPR Certification-Accepted:

    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety and Health Institute

    EDUCATION:
    Must be a graduate of an accredited medical school


    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
    Five (5) years of clinical experience preferred
