    RESPONSIBLE FOR:


    Independently performs laboratory proceduresfor which the technologist has been trained and demonstratedcompetency.

    Independently performs laboratory testing on patientsof all ages using professional knowledge of laboratory procedures,executing, interpreting and/or analyzing, in an accurate and timelymanner.

    In addition, oversees the technical activities of thesection or department in the absence of the lead orsupervisor.

    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM EDUCATIONREQUIRED:

    High School diploma or equivalentrequired plus a sufficient number of college and/or technicalschool courses and clinical training to satisfy the requirementsfor testing and certification as a medical technologist by anapproved certifying agency.

    MINIMUMEXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


    Three years in a clinicallaboratory setting.

    MINIMUMLICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BYLAW:

    Certification as a medical technologist ormedical laboratory scientist by the American Society of ClinicalPathologists (ASCP), AMT (American Medical Technologists) or AAB(American Association of Bioanalysts) according to thequalifications through the State of Georgia Department of CommunityHealth, Healthcare Facility, Clinical Laboratory regulations.

    Aperson who recently moved into the state of Georgia may betemporarily classified as technologists for eighteen (18) monthsonly to afford the person an opportunity to successfully completean approved qualifying examination.

    AAB provisional certificationnot accepted.

    ADDITIONALQUALIFICATIONS:


    Bachelors Degree in clinicallaboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology or in alife / biological science (biology, biochemistry, microbiology,etc.) preferred. Should be competent in areas of the laboratorybeing covered, including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, bloodbank, microbiologypreferred.
