    This position provides mental health services to students referred to or requesting assistance from the Student Counseling and Accessibility Center and to the campus at large.

    This person is expected to perform under minimal supervision due to specialized training and experience and will be trusted to make sound clinical decisions in the best interests of students and the college.

    Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of the Student Counseling & Accessibility Center (SCAC) and performance is based upon management of clinical caseload, satisfaction of students served, and collaboration with colleagues and other campus stakeholders.

    The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the College Policies & Procedures.

    Required Qualifications


    EDUCATION:
    Master's or doctoral degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Counseling or Psychology.


    EXPERIENCE:
    Three years of providing mental health service, preferably in a collegiate setting (Inclusive of practicum and internship training).


    REQUIREMENTS:
    Valid license to practice counseling or psychology in the state of Georgia. License eligible accepted but not preferred.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Doctoral level therapist preferred.

    Valid license to practice counseling or psychology in the state of Georgia.

    Preferred Education/Experience

    Doctoral level therapist preferred.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


    • Ability to work with a diverse student population.
    • Knowledgeable of psychological assessment, DSM 5 diagnosis, and evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions.
    • Ability to diffuse volatile situations requiring sound, timely decisions in the interest of the student, SCAC, the College and in conjunction with all applicable laws and codes of ethics.
    • Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate outreach workshops, seminars, and group therapy.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
    • Ability to provide supervision and guidance to assigned graduate student trainees within area of responsibility, providing direct training and supervision as needed.
    • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
    • Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.
    • Ability to communicate and have strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
    • Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear.

    The employee must have the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include ability to distinguish the nature of objects by using the eye.

    PRIMARY DUTIES (May include, but not limited to the following):


    • Conducts intake evaluations of students requesting mental health services.
    • Provides individual and/or group therapy services as needed and assigned.
    • Maintains timely record keeping and response to students, parents, and other stakeholders.
    • Facilitates several outreach programs to the broader campus over the course of the school year.
    • Facilitates referral to other campus departments, private providers, and/or Morehouse strategic partners as needed.
    • Works with other campus departments and stakeholders to support the mission of the college.
    • Provides consultation services to students, student organizations, faculty, and staff as needed.
    • Supervises graduate student trainees as assigned.
    • Participates in weekly case conference, staff meetings, and other meetings/committees as assigned
    • Is available for crisis response and after-hours emergency consultation services.
    • Provides training to faculty and departments on mental health awareness as needed and assigned.
    • Participates in professional organizations and professional development activities.
