Pay range: $40+/hr; based on experience; MI Teaching Certificate required

Responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver comprehensive ASL curriculum for students at various proficiency levels.
• Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages active participation and engagement.
• Incorporate a variety of instructional techniques, such as visual aids, group activities, and technology, to enhance learning outcomes.
• Assess student progress regularly and provide constructive feedback to support growth and development.
• Collaborate with colleagues and participate in professional development opportunities to continuously improve teaching practices.
• Foster a positive and respectful classroom culture that celebrates diversity and promotes empathy and understanding.

Qualifications:

• Valid Teaching Certificate
• Bachelors degree in Deaf Studies, Education, Linguistics, or a related field (Masters degree preferred).
• Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) with native or near-native proficiency.
• Minimum of two years of experience teaching ASL to diverse student populations.
• Strong understanding of Deaf culture, history, and community dynamics.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with students and colleagues.
• Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
• Certification in ASL teaching (e.g., ASLTA certification) is a plus.
