    General Description

    This position is responsible for the maintenance and safe operation of a pool. The incumbent trains and supervises Lifeguards and Pool Attendants. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Recreation Center Director or other higher level recreational staff. Does related work as required.

    CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.

    Typical Work Activities

    + Enforces sanitary and safety measures of the Health Department and the Bureau of Parks, Recreation & Human Services;

    + Supervises the maintenance of the pool, and, in the absence of the Engineer, provides routine maintenance;

    + Files health reports;

    + Keeps inventory, attendance, payroll and other records;

    + Supervises lifeguards, pool attendants and other pool staff;

    + Works as a lifeguard;

    + Renders first aid and resuscitation as necessary;

    + Trains employees in lifesaving and swimming techniques.

    Minimum Qualifications

    High School diploma or GED; PLUS EITHER:

    + Two (2) years experience supervising lifeguards and pool staff; OR

    + Three (3) years experience as a lifeguard.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

    + Possession of a current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate or equivalent.

    + Possession of a Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certificate or equivalent.
