    TRIO Student Support Services furthers the mission of Bellevue College by providing individualized support services to students with limited income and first-generation college students to assist them with their academic success. These services include but are not limited to academic advising, personal guidance and support, transfer planning, assistance with financial aid processes, study skills development, and tutoring. The department goal is to promote and sustain strategies that improve student success, retention, and completion. TRIO works to achieve these goals by offering programs, resources and guidance that facilitate the students transition to college and that supports their progress through graduation and transfer to bachelors degree programs.

    The Program Specialist 3 works under general direction and reports to the TRIO Director. The nature of the work is professional, and requires an ability to work in accordance of college rules, policies, and regulations, as well as state and federal laws and regulations. The position performs complex duties. The Program Specialist 3/Student Success Specialist coordinates programs and services, providing assistance and individualized case management to TRIO students. This position works with Bellevue College faculty and staff, and college representatives. The position recommends resolution for complex problems and issues related to the students individualized needs. Incumbents assess TRIO participants needs and develop specialized services and training unique to the Department and are responsive to the needs of TRIO students. The use of professional judgement based on the assessment of student needs and individual circumstances is required for this position.

    This is Part-Time (20 hours workweek) project position. Depending on funding availability, the position may be extended.

    Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

    Position Salary Range: $28,992/year - $39,048/year

    The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidates qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Individuals newly hired to Classified position are placed in a salary range based on the WPEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    We offer comprehensive compensation package with salary and benefits as the main components. Competitive salary is within the Range stated above, and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Generous is offered through Washington State plans that includes multiple medical, dental, life and disability coverage choices for employees and dependents; choices of retirement and deferred compensation plans; paid holidays, sick, and vacation plans; transit program, reduced tuition, employee discounts and memberships, etc.

    The employee is scheduled to work 20 hours per workweek. This is a Classified, overtime eligible position and represented by the Washington Public Employee Association of Higher Education (WPEA-HE).

    About the Department

    TRIO Student Support Services furthers the mission of Bellevue College by providing individualized support services to students with limited income and first-generation college students to assist them with their academic success.     Essential Functions

    Essential Functions:

    Conduct Academic Advising and Case Management services for TRIO students

    • Perform intake for new students. Determine student eligibility.
    • Assess individual needs and develop College Success Plans for all students on caseload.
    • Research and complete Educational Plans for each student on caseload.
    • Conduct academic advising sessions, inform students of degree requirements, assess and evaluate academic progress, recommend changes as needed.
    • Develop transfer plans, conduct transfer advising and assist with the transfer application process.
    • Provide individualized guidance and support with resource referral as needed.
    • Conduct academic intervention. Work with faculty and students to interpret and strengthen academic success skills.
    • Develop educational and behavioral intervention plans as indicated.
    • Maintain ongoing communication with students via weekly emails and monthly meetings. Monitor and track participation in department activities.
    • Properly document and record all student contact information in the Student Access Database.
    • Use ctcLink, TargetX, and BC website to research student information.
    • Conduct Financial Literacy and Study Skills education and training with each student on caseload.
    • Maintain Caseload of 60 students.
    • Apply federal regulations and legislation.

    Non-Essential Functions:

    Develop and Implement specialized programs and procedures for these specialized programs

    Conduct Workshops

    • Collaborate with department staff to provide workshop series on college success strategies.

    Computer Lab

    • Monitor usage of TRIO Computer Lab. Document usage in Student Access Database.
    • Coordinate with Information Technology Services for technical needs and services.

    Other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Any combination of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
    • One (1) year experience working in a higher education setting.
    • One (1) year experience providing academic advising for college students or one (1) year of case management experience with adult populations.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and faculty of diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities, both orally and in writing.
    • Demonstrated ability to be responsive to the needs of a diverse student population and community.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and oversee assigned projects.
    • Effective customer service skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Masters degree.
    • One (1) year experience providing academic advising in a community college setting.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of federal TRIO programs.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement special programs.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of the transfer process (Associates to Bachelors degree).
    • Demonstrated experience providing advising, coaching, and personal support to low-income, first generation college students.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of ctcLink and TargetX.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of barriers similar to those confronting.
