    The Multi-Modal Civil Engineer performs professional-level engineering work in the planning and design of public works projects to deliver infrastructure to better serve all users. Utilizes engineering principles and practices to solve issues related to existing or proposed infrastructure, development and redevelopment review, and environmental issues. Actively promotes and advances the City's desire to encourage mode shift within the community.

    This pay range for this position is $ $44.03, depending on qualifications and experience. This position can be either part-time or full-time, with flexibility offered in scheduling and some remote work. Please indicate your preference in the job application.
    Essential Functions

    The following are normal for the position but shall not be construed as exclusive or inclusive. Other related duties may be required and assigned.
    • Serves as the primary Engineering Division staff liaison to the City's Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Committee.
    • Understands the value that walking, biking, micro mobility, and transit bring to the City of Wauwatosa.
    • Advocates, researches, and implements opportunities to encourage mode shift within the City.
    • Designs and analyzes public works projects focused on bicycle, transit, micro mobility, and pedestrian safety/mobility.
    • Performs field investigations, including collecting data and developing alternatives to address multimodal, curbside management, and traffic safety concerns.
    • Prepares plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contracts for public works projects related to multi-modal transportation and increasing equitable transportation options. Projects include streets, alleys, sidewalks, and bicycle lanes.
    • Performs calculations and utilizes AutoCAD-Civil3D for the preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for the repair, resurfacing, and reconstruction of City streets, alleys, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, parking lots.
    • Prepares assessments for paving projects.
    • Coordinates and works closely with city utility engineers, surveyors, and inspectors in the preparation of plans and specifications, and the construction of public works projects.
    • Acquires State and Federal permits.
    • Writes grant applications, request for proposals, contracts and specifications.
    • Reviews and provides input on plans prepared by consultant engineers.
    • Reviews private development plans for conformance with City code requirements.
    • Promotes and maintains positive departmental public relations and image with customers, which include other City departments and staff, contractors, developers, property owners, and the community in general.
    Minimum Requirements
    • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program required.
    • Five to ten years related experience preferred. A Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of experience.
    • Significant experience in design of civil infrastructure focused on bicycle, transit, micro mobility, and pedestrian safety mobility. Experience in design of roadways, drainage infrastructure, pedestrian signal and lighting improvements, bicycle facilities, and pedestrian facilities preferred.
    • Interest in Safe Routes to School, Complete Streets, Vision Zero, and bicycle and pedestrian planning.
    • Wisconsin Professional Engineer Registration must be obtained within twelve (12) months from date of hire.
    • Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of public works design, drafting, surveying and construction.
    • A valid Wisconsin Driver's License is required.
    The City of Wauwatosa reserves the right to utilize equivalencies where deemed appropriate with regard to education and experience requirements.

    Additional Information

    This position receives supervision and direction from the Senior Civil Engineer.
