    Responsibilities Work with senior management in Legal and other business and engineering disciplines to develop engineering investigation plans in the incident response context, and then organize cross-functional teams to execute those plans.

    Act as the technical liaison between outside counsel, hired consultants, internal engineering groups, and case manager attorneys investigating and defending Breach of Warranty, Product Liability, and other product-related allegations and disputes.

    Review all technical information on all Rivian Breach of Warranty and Product Liability matters.

    Conceptualize, plan, and execute on vehicle and accident scene investigations throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe, and prepare reports to team members and counsel.

    Train team members in all aspects of Rivian vehicle diagnostics. Raise Rivian Concerns, as necessary, through investigative work, and ensure the appropriate hand-off to business and engineering teams. Act as a technical lead for executive reviews of field quality and safety matters. Respond to requests from Service, Quality, and other business teams to review escalated vehicle diagnostic requests. Provide advanced technical support for senior leaders conducting salability reviews. Assist with technical documentation reviews; e.g., Owners Guides, Warnings, Labels, and In-Vehicle messaging. Represent Rivian at trials, mediations, depositions, and court or Alternative Dispute Resolution conferences.

    Assist with preparing discovery responses, verify discovery responses, and act as a company witness at depositions, hearings, and trials, as needed.

    At the direction of counsel, act as the technical lead for internal and external teams, including outside counsel, and consultants to reconstruct crashes.

    Assist legal department personnel with the evaluation of lawsuits and claims involving Breach of Warranty, Product Liability, and other product-related issues.

    Participate in case resolution meetings with outside counsel and in-house staff to assist with evaluations.

    Work with senior management to automate work-flow systems to optimize Repurchase Compliance Program and Customer Concern Review flows between Legal and other Rivian departments.

    Lead technical teams on special projects, as necessary.
    Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, specialized automotive degree. Ability to travel, sometimes internationally, and represent the company in an unsupervised environment. 10 years of direct experience in the automotive industry.

    Experience should include conducting vehicle and site inspections, preparing reports on those inspections, assisting legal personnel with crash investigations, and hands-on experience diagnosing/troubleshooting EV concerns in high-priority and legal situations.

    Experience working cross-functionally with various business and engineering disciplines, and legal personnel. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment and in situations with limited instruction and supervision. Motivated by a team-oriented environment and working collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders.

    Testifying experience in depositions, trials, and/or ADR settings in matters involving Breach of Warranty, Product Liability, and other product-related issues preferred.

    Leading field teams in conducting vehicle crash investigations, especially pertaining to EVs and ADAS features preferred. Deep knowledge of automobile engineering, dynamics, and safety management systems (SMS). Training/experience in biomechanics and human factors disciplines. EV fire investigation experience preferred.

    Pay DisclosureSalary Range for Irvine, CA based applicants:
    $168,000 - $193,000 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law).

    Salary Range for Palo Alto, CA based applicants:
    $184,000 - $211,000 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law)
