    Carpenter Crew Chief - Seattle, United States - The Port of Seattle

    Description


    In this role you will provide direct leadership and supervision for all work activities within the Marine Maintenance Carpenter group in addition to providing services to the various business groups within the Maritime, Real Estate, and Northwest Seaport Alliance Divisions.

    You will manage, coordinate and scope projects, participate in pre-bid walk-throughs, provide information on estimates, schedules, budgets, coordinate projects with crew, facilitate meetings, and monitor projects progress and status.

    You will oversee the management of the Marine Maintenance south end Carpenter crew and engage in field work when appropriate.

    You will oversee on-site activities to ensure safe work practices are followed in addition to managing Site Specific Safety Permits and Personal Protection Equipment as needed, and ensure it is used as required.

    You will oversee daily meetings, review daily Safety Hazards, identify manpower equipment, and materials needs. You will oversee environmental requirements such as erosion and dust control, proper disposal, management, and recycling of materials. You will direct and oversee crew activities, review time entries, and correct as needed. You will participate in hiring and layoff discussions and update documents, pictures, videos to track and communicate work performed.

    You will oversee management of yard activities, track hours worked on work orders to ensure work performed will stay within budget.

    You will monitor Port owned and rental equipment, report any issues to the General Foreman, fill out and submit timecards, monitor crew breaks, lunches, overtime, and documentation of project activities.


    Who you are:
    Experienced
    • You have five (5) years' of increasingly responsible journey level carpentry experience.
    Desired
    • We hope you have supervisory experience, as well as seven (7) years of journey level carpentry experience.
    Knowledgeable
    • You have technical knowledge of construction methods and materials, working knowledge of Windows based computers and related accessories, time tracking software, keyboarding and data input skills, and electronic mail software.

    • You are able to develop, motivate and lead effective teams with the ability to coordinate activities for direct reports and others to achieve complex goals.
    You are able to build trust and respect with a variety of individuals and groups.

    What else you need to know:
    Driver's License
    • You will need a valid Washington State Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
    Work Schedule
    • Your normal work schedule will be Monday
    • Thursday, 6:00 a.
    m. to 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies. Work Environment
    • You will generally work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
    You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and/or in confined spaces. Washington State Residency Requirement
    • Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle.
    If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State. Overtime Eligible
    • You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
    Safety Requirements
    • You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
    Security Requirements
    • As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.
    Union Representation
    • This position is represented by the Carpenters' union, Local 30.
