Job Summary

The Director of Immunohematology Reference Laboratories oversees clinical laboratory operations with a focus on technical excellence timely result delivery client satisfaction quality assurance operational efficiency.

Ensures proactive communication with clients stakeholders addresses concerns promptly promotes service-oriented culture ensures ongoing compliance CLIA NYS-DOH AABB FDA standards leads proficiency testing implements corrective actions Operational duties include managing staffing budgets SOPs equipment safety fostering staff engagement development Result Delivery Turnaround Time TAT Ensures timely delivery accurate clinically relevant lab results Select validate implement maintain test methods appropriate clinical use test results Ensure quality test performance specifications preanalytical analytic postanalytical phases testing Resolve technical issues deviations reporting test results Develop strategies optimize turnaround time compromising accuracy Monitor TAT metrics analyze delays bottlenecks workflows Implement automation process improvements reduce delays improve result delivery Customer Service Client Satisfaction Includes internal stakeholders Hospital Services Physician Services external clients Maintain proactive timely communication clients regarding clinical lab services Respond promptly professionally client concerns complaints inquiries Conduct regular business reviews implement changes feedback Build maintain strategic relationships key clients vendors Ensure all lab staff understand role customer service support service-oriented culture Quality Assurance Compliance Ensures laboratory reliability accuracy accreditation compliance Oversee quality assurance activities aligned NYBCs QMS ensure adherence regulatory accreditation standards CLIA NYS-DOH AABB FDA Establish maintain quality control program appropriate testing performed Responsible proficiency testing quality improvement initiatives Act investigate resolve non-conformances CAPAs Promote continuous quality improvement accountability among staff Operational Management Ensures day-to-day lab activities efficient engaged Oversee laboratory workflows staffing equipment maintenance safety compliance Supervise mentor laboratory managers supervisors laboratory staff Foster highly engaged motivated workforce clear communication professional development staff recognition retention Ensure adequately trained competent staffing maintain smooth operations operational coverage Develop manage labs annual operating capital budgets identify opportunities growth efficiency Collaborate NYBC IRL leaders subject matter experts develop standardized SOPs documents policies training materials Provide input standardization decisions research based industry best practices workflow efficiency Contribute research initiatives immunohematology complex serologic investigations genomics studies publish findings peer-reviewed journals present national regional conferences advance transfusion medicine promote NYBC expertise Qualifications Education Bachelor Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science Medical Technologist Immunology related field Experience Six more years relevant technical service-related industry experience high-complexity laboratory blood bank setting four more years supervisory managerial experience in in-laboratory environment Preferred Qualifications Experience as an AABB Assessor for Immunohematology Reference Laboratories Red Cell Molecular Testing plus Master degree at least two years pertinent clinical laboratory experience subsequent qualifying at least two years spent working in clinical have director doctoral level Licenses Certification New York State Clinical Technologist license required SBB certification required Knowledge Expert knowledge of Immunohematogy Transfusion Medicine science practices Advanced knowledge current techniques technology beyond immunhematology reference laboratories Working knowledge basic statistical approaches evaluate trend data Working knowledge business productivity software applications Microsoft Office Suite Working knowledge regulations standards FDA CLIA NYS CLEP AABB Skills Cultural competency communicate effectively culturally sensitive manner individuals groups diverse backgrounds High level interpersonal skills handle variety complex issues situations Poise tact diplomacy dealing various up executive leadership Strong management leadership supervisory skills Abilities Demonstrable ability mentor teach train technical staff
