    The job function of this position is to serve as a System Administrator within the OU Supercomputing Center for Education and Research (OSCER), operating and maintaining OU's research computing systems, including but not limited to the following:

    Linux cluster supercomputerInternal research cloudLarge scale, high-performance disk system(s)Large-scale tape archiveHigh-speed research network(s)The job function also includes working with a diverse range of faculty, staff, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate and undergraduate students, to make the best possible use of OU's research computing systems.

    As a member of the supercomputing operations team, this professional will work with researchers, educators and other research computing team members to identify and address technical obstacles to the work of the OU research community and their collaborators at other institutions.

    The primary duties of this position will be to participate in ongoing efforts to document, design, develop, maintain, enhance, and decommission supercomputing (high-performance computing) and other research computing systems, in a manner consistent with established priorities and prevailing best practices, and to work directly with researchers and educators on how to use these systems effectively in their research and teaching.

    The ideal candidate for this position is curious, creative, tenacious, and self-directed, and demonstrates a strong work ethic; is productive working independently as well as collaboratively; is analytical and can identify, define, interpret, and resolve both technical and human issues.

    Responsible for systems administration tasks needed to maintain the University's supercomputing cluster as well as working with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students to make the best possible use of OU's research computing resources.

    Performs system administration including but not limited to system maintenance, patching, configuration, network management, hardware troubleshooting, monitoring, and backups, and performs comparable functions on other resources.

    Tracks issues and works with researchers, educators, and other team members to resolve obstacles to researchers' progress.

    Analyzes business and technology needs, specifies, tests, and deploys solutions to these needs, and develops documentation on these solutions that allow for long-term support.

    Works with vendors and colleagues to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems and prepares documentation for other team members to provide consistency for operational support.

    Provides consulting support to users and other technical groups in support of deployed technical solutions.
    Interacts with internal and external software and hardware providers in the deployment and troubleshooting of system errors.
    Provides mentorship within their respective area of expertise to other employees within the organization.
    Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
