    Weekly Stipend: $565.00

    Relocation Allowance: $400.00

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    The GIS Assistant will support the geospatial data program by preparing GIS-related graphic material for reports, using GPS data collection software to collect digital spatial data, and use GIS software to create, manage, edit and document geospatial information. Duties will include coordinating with internal partners to gather and sometimes collect data, then processing this information and developing a map and/or analysis product that supports natural resource managers in the Park. Additionally, the candidate will have the opportunity to assist in physical science monitoring.

    The project supports the understanding and management of unique and significant geologic and hydrologic resources in the Park, while providing important information to support public health and safety concerns for Park visitors. The role will contribute to the project goals by collecting and analyzing vital data, and helping to develop protocols that answer scientific questions, which in turn inform management decisions.     Grand Teton National Park is situated in the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of Earth's largest intact temperate ecosystems. The park features the Teton Range, known for its 12 peaks over 12,000 feet, with the highest peak exceeding 13,000 feet. The park encompasses morainal lakes, alpine and backcountry lakes, and the Snake River, which is the headwaters of the Columbia River system.

    DELIVERABLES

    This role entails reviewing and validating existing datasets and associated metadata, performing fieldwork to verify spatial accuracy, collecting new data, developing Survey123 app, ArcGIS Collector maps, and ArcGIS Dashboards, creating new data sets from remote sensing products, linking photos and external databases to spatial databases, training park staff in GPS, preparing maps, and assisting in monitoring at an air quality station within the park.

    DESIRED INTERN QUALIFICATIONS

    • Have a strong working knowledge of ESRI GIS Software products (ArcMap, ArcPro, ArcGIS Online, Collector and Survey 123)
    • Good, basic knowledge of geography concepts (scale, precision/accuracy, datums, and coordinate systems, etc.)
    • Basic knowledge of GPS and field mapping
    • Basic knowledge of mobile devices and ability to train staff on mobile applications
    • Background in GIS or related field is encouraged
    • Positive attitude, eagerness to learn and contribute

    The applicant must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. legal permanent resident. A government security background clearance will be required prior to starting. Availability for 20 Weeks is necessary to be considered for this role.

    WORK SETTING

    The natural environment of Grand Teton National Park in northwest Wyoming offers a landscape rich with mountains, lakes, and wildlife. The park headquarters in Moose, Wyoming is near Jackson, a small community with outdoor recreation opportunities. The climate supports a variety of outdoor activities year-round.

    VEHICLE AND DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

    • Applicant must have a valid driver's license
    • A personal vehicle is recommended

    HOUSING

    Park housing provided at no cost with shared living arrangements. Participants must bring bedding and kitchen supplies.
