    JOB SUMMARY

    This position will assist the Head Coach with the intercollegiate men and women's track & field program, including but not limited to coaching, recruiting qualified student-athletes, fundraising, camps, developing schedules, budget management, building community support for the program, monitoring academic progress of student-athletes, and knowledge of applicable NAIA and AAC rules; and performs related duties as assigned. This position will work cooperatively with and interact with personnel in the athletic department, attend department meetings and activities, and always represent the College positively when interacting with students, colleagues, university staff, alumni, high school and club coaches, media, and the general public. This position will also be responsible for assisting in all aspects of the Columbia College women's track & field program, while following the mission and vision of the College and applicable NAIA and AAC rules. This part-time staff position works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision and reports to the Head Men and Women's Track & Field Coaches.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    • Coaches and leads the men and women's track & field team throwers in practices for High Jump, Long Jump, and Triple Jump.
    • Assists in overseeing all aspects of the program, including practices, competition, scheduling and recruiting.
    • Monitors class schedules, grades and academic progress of program student-athletes.
    • Commits to and is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations set forth for the team, the College, AAC and NAIA.
    • Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletic department, attends department meetings and activities, and always represents the College positively when interacting with the community, alumni, high school and club coaches, media and the general public.
    • Supports the philosophy and mission of the College and the athletic department; assists in fundraising activities to enhance the program.
    • Models good sportsmanship and enforces sportsmanlike behavior among student-athletes.
    • Develops student-athletes to be contributing members of the campus community and the community at-large.
    • Teaches and maintains a healthy team environment that includes the NAIA Champions of Character 5 Core Values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership.
    • Establishes rapport quickly with students and their families, while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
    • Dresses appropriately for office, practice, and team competitions in proper college apparel as needed.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
    • Bachelor's degree in sports management, business, science or closely related field.
    • Must have collegiate or high school coaching experience.
    • Prior knowledge of NAIA compliance and Appalachian Athletic Conference rules.
    • Must be able to work flexible hours which may include early/late hours, occasional weekends, and the ability to travel and attend all track & field meets throughout the indoor and outdoor season.
    • Must have a valid SC Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
    • Must be willing and able to safely drive college vehicles.
    • Must pass a background check.
    • Must work well with others in a team setting, be willing to take on extra duties as assigned, and must be a great communicator.
    • Must have a high attention to detail and maintain a personal standard of excellence.
    • Must have desire and knowledge to help maintain sports facilities as needed for practice and game day competitions.
    • Required to report any athlete/team issues that are detrimental to the team, department, or college; any illegal activities must be reported immediately.
    • Must be willing to work within and follow the guidelines of the College, and the Department of Athletics at all times.

    • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
    • Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
    • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; excellent interpersonal skills.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Work requires the ability to move and lift 30 to 50 pounds independently and be able to perform strenuous physical labor, and the ability to exert 30 to 50 pounds of force frequently. May be required to use a ladder. Also requires frequent bending, squatting, standing, reaching, climbing, kneeling, stooping, crawling, and occasional sitting. May be required to occasionally work in small, hard to reach spaces. Work is performed both inside a facility and outdoors in all weather conditions. Some hazardous situations may exist based on work to be performed.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Work environment may risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, disease/pathogens, toxic/caustic chemicals.
