Schedule: Full-time; Hybrid/In-office; occasional evenings/weekends for programs and community events
About Us
The Livingston Arts Council advances arts and culture across Livingston County and stewards the historic Howell Opera House, a cornerstone venue for performances, programs, and civic life. As a nonprofit, we create welcoming community experiences while preserving and revitalizing this landmark for generations to come.
Position Overview
The Program and Marketing Director is a mission aligned marketing professional who drives ticket sales and audience growth through strategic, data-informed marketing and program support. This role manages the full spectrum of marketing for Livingston Arts Council and the Howell Opera House, using CRM and AMS tools, Google Analytics, and campaign performance metrics to guide decisions and improve outcomes.
Working closely with the Executive Director, this position helps shape and promote programming based on metrics and stakeholder input, builds email workflows and automations, maintains brand standards, manages website updates, and identifies high-value community presence opportunities that increase awareness, participation, and revenue. This role is both strategic and hands-on.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Engagement
- Lead and execute marketing strategy and day-to-day promotion for performances, classes, events, rentals, and organizational initiatives
- Drive ticket sales through campaign planning, audience segmentation, clear calls to action, and consistent performance tracking
- Build and manage social media campaigns (organic and paid as applicable), including content planning, scheduling, audience targeting, and performance review
- Manage and update website content and event pages to ensure accuracy, clarity, accessibility, and a smooth ticket buying experience
- Apply basic user experience principles to improve how patrons find information and purchase tickets (clarity, navigation, mobile friendliness, and calls to action)
- Apply basic SEO best practices to improve discoverability (titles, descriptions, keywords, links, and page structure)
- Use CRM and AMS tools to manage lists, segmentation, tagging, reporting, and basic data hygiene. Monitor and report on marketing performance using Google Analytics and email platform metrics (traffic, conversions, engagement trends, and sales performance)
- Build and manage email campaigns, workflows, and automations under Executive Director guidance (welcome series, reminders, follow ups, returning audience outreach, membership nudges, win-backs and more)
- Partner with the Executive Director to translate program performance insights into actionable marketing and programming adjustments (pricing, timing, messaging, and audience targeting)
- Maintain and enforce brand standards across Livingston Arts Council and Howell Opera House communications and in community facing materials
- Create marketing assets using Canva and or Adobe Express, including social graphics, email graphics, posters, and basic signage as needed
- Manage marketing calendars and campaign launch timelines to ensure adequate lead time and coordinated promotion
- Conduct environmental scanning to identify community events, partnerships, and promotional opportunities aligned with mission and goals, then recommend where LAC should show up
- Help communicate the Opera House story and historic preservation priorities in ways that strengthen public value, participation, and philanthropic support
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and community partners as needed to support marketing delivery and visibility
Programming Strategy, Selection, and Scheduling (Howell Opera House + LAC)
- Lead the planning, selection, and scheduling of programs for the Howell Opera House and Livingston Arts Council in alignment with organizational strategic direction, community needs, and mission priorities
- Under the direction of the Executive Director, build and maintain a year-round programming calendar that balances earned revenue goals, community impact, seasonal rhythms, staffing capacity, and venue constraints
- Use data to guide programming decisions, including attendance and sales trends, audience demographics, pricing performance, capacity utilization, and post event feedback
- Gather and incorporate stakeholder input from patrons, artists, partners, sponsors, members, and community leaders to inform program mix and priorities
- Identify and evaluate program opportunities (artists, series concepts, classes, exhibits, talks, markets) and recommend what to pursue based on audience demand, mission fit, financial considerations, and operational feasibility
- Coordinate programming timelines with marketing launch plans to ensure adequate lead time for promotion, ticketing setup, and audience development efforts
- Prioritize mission driven programming in the calendar and collaborate closely with the Rental and Sales Coordinator to schedule rentals and weddings strategically to support revenue without displacing core programs, marketing timelines, or audience building goals
- Track program performance and produce routine insights that support continuous improvement in programming, pricing, scheduling, and audience experience
- Support the professionalization of internal operations by developing and maintaining clear SOPs, checklists, templates, and shared workflows for programming and marketing processes, under the guidance and oversight of the Executive Director
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or related field
- 4 or more years of professional experience in marketing, communications, audience development, or event marketing
- Demonstrated management and supervisory experience, including leading staff, contractors, interns, or volunteers and coordinating work to meet deadlines and performance goals

- Experience building email campaigns and automated workflows
- Proficiency with Canva and or Adobe Express (or similar tools)
- Strong writing, editing, and project management skills
- Comfort with Google Drive and shared file collaboration
