    PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC (Temporary)

    Statewide - Alaska

    AHFC is currently recruiting for a Preventative Maintenance Mechanic based out of Anchorage.

    This position is a statewide traveling role headquartered in Anchorage, requiring periodic travel to locations such as Cordova, Fairbanks, Juneau, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Nome, Seward, Sitka, Valdez, Wasilla, Wrangell, and Bethel. While in Anchorage, the standard 40-hour workweek is observed, with occasional opportunities for overtime. During statewide travel, to the above mentioned locations, there is additional opportunities for overtime. The primary purpose of travel is to assist site maintenance staff with projects, or working closely with another statewide traveling maintenance mechanic.

    This position is primarily responsible for the maintenance and repair of the Corporations heating and mechanic systems statewide. Incumbent must be knowledgeable in all phases of heating, HVAC and control systems, especially boiler maintenance.

    Examples of Job Duties include but not limited to the following:

    Conducts inspections and performs preventative and annual maintenance and servicing of heating systems statewide.

    Administrators preventative maintenance program for heating and mechanical systems at AHFC/Public Housing Division properties statewide.

    Travel to statewide locations for assistance and repair on an as-needed basis.

    Advise supervisor of system upgrade/replacement requirements in written reports.

    Prepare cost estimate and recommends corrective actions.

    Perform maintenance and repair work to all heating and mechanical systems.

    Prepare work orders, reports, time sheets, material/equipment requisitions and other inventory control methods.

    May be required to perform routine maintenance and repair or renovation of housing units.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Knowledge of natural gas and oil fired heating equipment and electrical control systems.

    Skills in develop work plans for an inspection programs.

    Abilities to reach mechanical system blueprints and engineering technical specifications, utilize the use of systems tunning equipment, such as a flue gas analyzer, communicate effectively verbally and in writing to supervisors, other maintenance personnel and property managers; type reports and directives; work with minimal supervision; perform modestly heavy manual labor; in and out of doors and agility to work under adverse weather conditions.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    High school diploma or equivalent. Three years journeyman experience in heating system operations maintenance and repair, and two years in construction and building maintenance.

    Physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds repeatedly during an 8 hour workday.

    Provide valid Alaska driver's license and show proof of driving record in good standing from DMV when requested.

    All external applicants tentatively selected for this position shall be required to submit to urinalysis and breath alcohol testing to screen for illegal drug/alcohol use and complete a pre-employment physical prior to appointment.
