    Description

    Principal Research Scientist

    We are seeking a research scientist to apply causal inference, experimental design, or causal machine learning techniques to topics in labor, personnel, education, health, public, or behavioral science.

    Candidates will work with economists, scientists, and engineers to estimate and validate models on large-scale data, helping business partners turn analysis results into impactful policies, programs, and actions.

    You will lead research projects, collaborating with business partners to define key questions, communicate scientific approaches and findings, and deliver successful solutions.

    About the Role

    The People eXperience and Technology Central Science Team uses economics, behavioral science, statistics, and machine learning to identify mechanisms and process improvements for Amazon and its workforce.

    Requirements

    1. PhD or equivalent Master's degree plus 10+ years of research experience in a quantitative field.
    2. Experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles to business problems.
    3. 2+ years of research or work experience in programming with R, MATLAB, SAS, Python, Java, C++, C#, or C.

    Preferred Qualifications

    1. Ph.D. in a quantitative social science (e.g. economics, quantitative psychology, quantitative sociology).
    2. 5+ years of experience conducting large-scale applied research studies on topics relating to labor, personnel, education, health, public, or behavioral science.
    3. Experience applying machine learning and predictive models to forecasting, data mining, feature selection, and causal models.
    4. Superior verbal and written communication skills, ability to convey mathematical concepts to non-experts.

    Estimated Salary:

    $150,000 - $200,000 per year
