    South Texas Veterans Health Care System Critical Care Anesthesiologist

    The South Texas Veterans Health Care System is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Critical Care Anesthesiologist to join our team and provide exceptional care to our nation's veterans. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients throughout their surgical journey.

    Responsibilities:

    • Deliver the most effective anesthetic care across the hospital, consistently exceeding compliance standards.
    • Perform a comprehensive range of anesthesia services, including pre-operative assessments, intraoperative management and monitoring, and post-anesthesia care, adhering to Joint Commission standards.
    • Provide anesthesia-related direct care in various settings, including operating rooms, post-anesthesia care units (PACU), intensive care units (ICU), and clinics.
    • Collaborate with nurses, CRNAs, medical technicians, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
    • Conduct patient examinations, review medical histories, and utilize diagnostic tests to assess surgical and procedural risks.
    • Administer various types of anesthesia (local, intravenous, spinal, caudal) during medical procedures.
    • Coordinate anesthesia administration with surgeons during operating room procedures.
    • Provide and maintain life support, manage airways as necessary, and prepare patients for emergency surgery, leveraging your critical care experience.
    • Determine patient readiness for transfer to other units or discharge following surgery.

    Qualifications:

    • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an accredited institution.
    • Board certification in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA).
    • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Texas.
    • Minimum two years of experience as a Critical Care Anesthesiologist.
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
