    Description

    Position Summary:


    Surgical Technologist Non-Certified are allied health professionals, who are an integral part of the team providing surgical care to patients.

    Surgical Technologists function in the role of scrub person. Surgical Technologists work under the supervision of the surgeon and the R.N. to ensure that the O.R. environment is safe, equipment functions properly and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent
    • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program; or equivalent military surgical technologist program
    • American Heart Association BLS
    • Preferred:
    Certified Surgical Technologist


    • Preferred:
    1 year surgical technologist experience in acute care operating room


    Essential Job Functions:

    • Maintenance of strict aseptic technique.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and judgement in meeting the needs of the surgical patient.
    • Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure.
    • Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, solutions needed for procedure.
    • Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to operation and at appropriate intervals per policy.
    • Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants.
    • Helps in draping the sterile field.
    • Passes instruments, etc. to surgeon/assistant during procedure.
    • Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure.
    • Prepares sterile dressings.
    • Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.

    • Exercises tact, discretion, sensitivity and maintains confidentiality
