    POSITION TITLE: Teacher - Suspended Student Classroom (SSC)

    FLSA: Exempt

    QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold any content certification for grades 6-8

    REPORTS TO: Building Principals

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Supervise and monitor students assigned to the Suspended Student Classroom program.

    KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Applicant should have knowledge of school and classroom rules, procedures and practices.
  • Applicant must have the ability to interpret and establish appropriate rules, methods and techniques in maintaining a disciplined academic environment.
  • Applicant must have strong interpersonal skills and patience.
  • Applicant must have experience working with students and knowledge of conflict resolution techniques is strongly encouraged.
  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide supervision for students who are assigned to the Suspended Student Classroom.
  • Take daily attendance.
  • Review SSC policies, procedures and student expectations with students daily.
  • Work with students and or other staff members on issues such as behavior management and the prevention of undesirable behaviors that resulted in students being assigned to SSC.
  • Engage the students in differentiated learning experiences for the range of skill levels and developmental needs found in the classroom, managing, when appropriate, multiple instructional activities simultaneously.
  • Monitor the pacing of instruction and budget class time efficiently by providing clear directions, outlining expectations, and effectively bringing to closure instructional experiences.
  • Monitor all SSC assignments; provide encouragement and feedback to students, monitor tests, computer work and provide instructional assistance as appropriate.
  • Facilitate and communicate coursework with teachers.
  • Facilitate and arrange delivery of student lunches when necessary.
  • Refer behavior problems to Assistant Principals.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Teacher Certification: Any content 6-8 / SPED certification is preferred but not required
  • Operating knowledge of computers
  • Experience in working with middle school age children
  • Must be able to handle and react to potential student misbehavior and take appropriate action
  • OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  • Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Remain current on instructional practices in education (e.g. instructional technology).
