    Category/Classification: Temporary Summer Employment (Non-Exempt)

    Reports to: Associate Director of Reference and Adult Services; Associate Director of Youth Services

    General Summary

    The Summer Library Assistant is responsible for assisting Associate Director during the Summer Reading Program and performs other temporary library assignments. i.e. shelving books, digitization.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Works with team members to create a caring, courteous, and respectful environment.
    • Participates and assists with summer reading program activities.
    • Assists youth in locating library material.
    • Assists with maintaining records of youth's readings following departmental procedures.
    • Assists with crafts, games and other activities.
    • Shelves library material following the Dewey Decimal System.
    • Assists in checking material back in, when assigned.
    • Performs special projects as assigned
    • Straightens public service area before library closing.
    • Performs other entry level duties as assigned.
    Requirements

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Ability to alphabetize and put things in numerical order.

    Physical and Mental Requirements

    Ability to lift, bend and reach. Ability to work indoors and outdoors.

    Education, Certification, Experience, and Training

    Working on or completed high school degree.

    Preference may be given to individuals who have done work in the library as a volunteer.
