    As the provider of medical support to Axiom Space, we are seeking a bold and dynamic Clinical Psychologist.


    SUMMARY:

    Our team is looking for an energetic and dynamic Clinical Psychologist who will primarily be responsible for behavioral health support and direct care of assigned Axiom astronauts throughout all phases of a mission to ensure their mental health and safety.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Works as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing various assessment, selection, training, consultation, briefing and debriefing services for Private Astronaut Mission (PAM) with a wide range of PAM applicants.
    • Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including, but not limited to, evidence-based psychological assessments and interpretation for a full range of populations and psychiatric conditions covered in the Diagnostic and Statistical manual, 5th Ed (DSM-V); through the use of the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques for a range of populations, including specific Private Astronaut populations and company employees.
    • Develops, integrates, and sustains a robust behavioral health support program for space medicine flight operations (both crew and their families) in partnership with technical, operations, and programmatic parties. This will include supporting astronauts and their families during the preflight, in-flight, and post-flight phases of flight through education, assessments, and treatment.
    • Supports research including behavioral health data collection before, during, and after human spaceflight missions.
    • Provides initial in-person counselling/crisis management for ad hoc referral to organization-wide employee assistance program (EAP) as needed.
    • Participates in medical operation team meetings with interdisciplinary staff to recommend and review assessment and training plans.
    • Provides consultation and advice to professional staff within the Medical Operations Group, senior management and to other appropriate providers, concerning clinical assessment findings, appropriate training plans for PAM, space mission issues, and company policies as the behavioral health technical expert.
    • Responsible for timely completion of assessments and evaluations consultations, documentation, secure messages and records, correspondence, and other clinical-administrative requirements as required by the Medical Group.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education:

    • Doctoral degree in psychology (PhD or PsyD), from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) or the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS) in clinical or health psychology OR a Doctoral degree in any area of psychology.
    • Internship:
    • Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA at the time the program was completed and that is consistent with this assignment for which the applicant is to be employed in operational, clinical and health psychology.
    • Applicants who completed an internship that was not accredited by APA at the time the program was completed may be considered eligible for hire only if they are currently board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed
    (NOTE:

    Once board certified, the employee is required to maintain board certification.)

    • Candidates must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Candidate must obtain a license to practice psychology in the State of Texas, as dictated by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council within six (6) months of hiring. Failure to obtain a Texas license within this period are grounds for dismissal.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an operational/clinical/health psychology setting.
    • Experience administering and interpreting psychological diagnostic tests (to include standard cognitive, psychopathologic and personality tests).
    • Familiarity/experience with operational/extreme environments, including but not limited to military, fire/police/EMS departments, polar, offshore, aviation, or government (NASA or similar) medical/psychological operations.
    • Knowledge, familiarity, or experience working with government or commercial-developed human-rated spacecraft is preferred.
    Requirements


    • Must be able to complete a United States government background investigation.
    Physical Requirements


    • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. (<5% of the time).
