    DSHS Psychiatric Child Care Counselor/ Youth Support Professional 2


    Be a part of something new The Lake Burien Transitional Care Facility is being stood up by Washington State's Department of Social and Health Services, the Department of Children, Youth and Families, Health Care Authority with generous support from MultiCare and Seattle Children's Hospital.


    The Youth Support Professional 2 will serve as a shift lead to direct, assign, and monitor the performance of lower-level staff.

    As a shift lead you will also assist with activities of daily living, and model and implement evidence-based practices and provide situational counseling.


    The facility will open with 12 beds and 108 full-time employees with potential growth to 24 beds and 196+ full-time employees.


    The property was designed with children and youth in mind and features accessible spaces for onsite educational services and therapies, as well as access to outdoor space.

    The voluntary facility will initially serve 12 youth.


    This new therapeutic facility is slated to open in July to help youth, age 13 and older, with co-occurring intellectual and developmental disabilities who have complex needs such as mental illness or substance use disorder.

    Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.

    King County employees receive 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use.

    Some of what you'll be doing:


    • Provides coaching, teaching, and mentorship to a caseload of youth
    • Models and implements evidence-based practices (i.e. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Collaborative Problem Solving, Positive Behavioral Support, Trauma Informed Care) and behavioral approaches under the supervision of a clinical treatment team
    • Monitors, communicates, and documents behavioral observations and youth progress towards treatment and care
    • Facilitates the development of child and adolescent social skills, problem-solving and decision-making skills
    • Assists youth with activities of daily living based on developmentally age-appropriate approaches
    • Attends and participates in all mandatory and scheduled training
    • Acts as a liaison to other departments, (i.e., school, recreation therapy, etc.) and assists in hiring activities
    • Performs quality reviews of documentation (i.e. security logs, progress notes, incident reports, and other forms) to ensure compliance with documentation standards
    • Intervenes and provides oversight in crisis situations to de-escalate dangerous and/or assaultive situations utilizing basic de-escalation techniques and advanced crisis intervention strategies
    • Collaborates and assists in coordinated activities off-campus, such as community transition activities and off-campus transportation
    • Ensures both individualized and continuous therapeutic interventions are maintained, when clinically necessary
    • Takes appropriate action to protect clients from abuse and neglect to include the use of intervention when necessary
    • Provides relief shift charge duties and relieves other colleagues as assigned
    • Functions as an advocate and mentor for a small caseload of youth
    • Prepares written documentation, per The Joint Commission and Centers of Medicare and Medicaid standards of practice
    • Assists youth with activities of daily living based on developmentally age-appropriate approaches
    • Promotes a culture of safety through ongoing monitoring of the environment of care
    • Applies approved therapeutic options non-violent and advanced crisis intervention techniques to youth in imminent risk
    • Maintains and supports a therapeutic environment
    • Performs routine light housekeeping and food preparation to maintain youth program needs
    • Initiates and leads therapeutic activities on and off cottage
    • Participates in a limited capacity as a member of the multi-disciplinary clinical treatment by providing input and feedback based on clinical observations
    • Executes both individualized and continuous therapeutic interventions, when clinically necessary
    • Participates in ongoing educational and professional development activities
    • Performs other duties as required

    Who should apply:

    One year of experience of social service experience and a bachelor's degree with emphasis in Social Sciences, Education, Recreation, Psychology, or related field
