    Team Overview

Our focus is on developing a custom ASIC-powered bitcoin mining rig to address critical issues within the current bitcoin ecosystem. This includes tackling the concentration of hardware supply and promoting compatibility with clean energy sources.

    As a Senior ASIC Physical Design Engineer at Block, you will collaborate closely with digital designers and mixed signal designers to innovate the next generation of mining ASICs. Key responsibilities involve block level physical implementation, timing closure, integration, and physical verification.

    We are a distributed team in the U.S. and Canada, offering a remote position for this role. Our operational structure thrives on a flat meritocratic system - while this role's title is ASIC Physical Design Engineer, in other organizations it could be known as Technical Lead, Lead Design Engineer, or Senior/Staff Member of Technical Staff.

    Qualifications

    • You Will:
    • Perform block level P&R, and integration from early RTL to final tapeout
    • Collaborate with logic designers on block level timing closure
    • Work closely with custom cell development
    • Enhance current physical design infrastructure/methodology through scripting
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teammates across different time zones

    You Have:

    • 10+ years of relevant experience with BSEE or Applied Science degree; 8+ years with an MS degree
    • Proficiency in using Synopsys ICC2/Fusion Compiler and PrimeTime
    • Comprehensive understanding of the design cycle from RTL to GDSII
    • Prior experience in custom physical design and relative placement
    • Track record of tapping out multiple chips in 5nm and below
    • Expertise in block delivery aspects such as clock, power analysis, and physical verification
    • Strong skills in Python/Perl/shell/tcl
    • Experience with Linux and/or Unix, along with text editors
    • Ability to excel in a fast-paced startup environment
    • Excellent communication abilities

    It's even better if you have experience with:

    • CPU/GPU datapath or AI processor physical design

    Additional Information

    Block follows a market-based pay approach, with variations based on location. U.S. locations are divided into four zones with corresponding pay ranges. The starting pay for the successful candidate depends on skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.

    Zone A: USD $198,000 - USD $297,000

    Zone B: USD $184,200 - USD $276,200

    Zone C: USD $174,200 - USD $261,400

    Zone D: USD $164,300 - USD $246,500

    This role also provides eligibility for Block's equity plan and potential sign-on bonuses. Pay and benefits are subject to change as per company policies.
