    Assistant Director of Agreement and Policies, Corporate and Foundation Giving

    Position Summary:

    Under the direction of the Director of Agreements and Policies for Corporate and Foundation Giving, the Assistant Director of Agreements and Policies for Corporate and Foundation Giving is responsible for reviewing, formalizing, and negotiating gift agreements for support of Stanford Medicine. The Assistant Director will also oversee due diligence processes related to such gifts and assist in resolving questions and policy issues.

    The Assistant Director should have extensive experience in reviewing and analyzing contracts and other agreements and sophisticated legal drafting skills. In this role, you must have an ability to prioritize workload, make discerning judgment calls and provide high-quality service in a fast-moving, action-oriented, customer-focused, service environment. You must be able to work both independently and with partner offices and on teams, take initiative, and follow through on all assignments. Superior attention to detail and organizational skills are a must. This is a 2 year fixed-term position.

    In this role, you will:

    • Assist in drafting and negotiating agreements for both instutitional gifts and individual gifts with varying degrees of complexity.
    • Research and interpret terms governing existing gifts restricted for specific purposes, with the ability to evaluate feasibility and develop solutions when original purposes become limited. Responsibilities include analyzing legal documents, assessing viability, collaborating with stakeholders, and facilitating solutions while ensuring compliance and transparency.
    • Help identify contractual and policy issues such as gift vs. sponsored research classification, compliance, conflicts of interest and legal issues. Assist on policy questions and resolution of issues, as needed.
    • Review diligence on corporate and foundation donors/gifts and coordinate internally to resolve any issues that arise.
    • Engage in discussions with staff of corporations and foundations regarding gifts and university policies, interests and concerns.
    • Participate in the continued development of streamlined processes for reviewing and accepting corporate and foundation gifts, with the goal of increasing efficiency and clarity in the overall process.
    • Participate in facilitating faculty outreach and education/training on corporate and foundation engagement and university policies.
    • Collaborate with colleagues in the Office of Development, Medical Center Development and other campus schools, units and offices (e.g., School of Medicine, Industrial Contracts Office, Office of Technology Licensing, Office of Research Administration, Conflict of Interest, Continuing Medical Education, Office of General Counsel, Dean of Research, Communications, Property Management Office).

    To be successful in this role, you will bring:

    • Bachelor's degree. A J.D., or related advanced degree/certification is preferred. Three years of related professional experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Five years of related professional experience in corporate, transactional and/or related matters strongly preferred.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion.

    • Sophisticated negotiation and drafting skills (and mastery of preparing and reviewing redlines).
    • Efficient and independent work ethic.
    • Superior interpersonal skills. Strong ability to work well on sensitive issues with a wide variety of people and personalities, including faculty, industry representatives and legal counsel, as well as administrative staff and coworkers.
    • Ability to work for consensus with disparate groups. Excellent judgment, creativity and common sense.
    • Must show initiative and diplomacy, anticipate needs, and be a consummate team player. Must be organized and capable of setting priorities while handling multiple tasks in a busy environment.
    • Demonstrate ability to engage in problem solving and look for opportunities to share knowledge and information.

    The expected pay range for this position is $142,000 – $163,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
