    Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center (BMNTC) is currently accepting applications for a full-time Clinical Dietitian.

    This position provides high quality, nutritionally balanced meals, nourishment and medical nutrition supplements to residents of BMNTC. This department also provides clinical nutrition care for the BMNTC programs. Service is provided 7 days a week/365 days a year. Some residents require highly specialized dietary management for acute or chronic conditions.

    This position functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team and participates as a knowledgeable resource in the planning of the needs of our residents.

    Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Professional Services.

    ANDATORY and MUST report or stay over during adverse weather and/or other emergencies.


    Per G.S c1) (37), this position is Exempt from all provisions of NC General Statute Chapter 126 (State Human Resources Act) with the exception of Articles 6 and 7.

    The responsibilities of our Clinical Dietitian include, but are not limited to, the following:

    * completing Nutritional Assessments and Care Plans
    * consulting with residents to determine feeding skills and nutritional needs
    * developing special meal plans and calculating tube feedings
    * developing, implementing, and following up with nutritional plans of care
    * documenting MDS in MDS 3.0
    * functioning seamlessly as a member of an interdisciplinary team
    * participating in care plan team meetings to report on current nutrition plans of care for residents
    * reviewing monthly weights for all residents, informing the medical team of significant changes, and making recommendations for nutrition interventions when needed to help maintain optimal nutritional status
    * providing education and training to staff and caregivers
    * observing resident mealtimes and residential dining rooms, making recommendations as needed to enhance the dining experience

    The usual work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Flexibility is required for training/educational purposes and when required to meet the needs of the facility.

    Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center is one of three state operated facilities serving adults with chronic and complex medical conditions that co-exist with neurodevelopmental or neurocognitive disorders often related to a diagnosis of severe and persistent mental illness or intellectual disability.

    The health and physical status of these residents require 24-hour supervision, daily nursing care, and assistance with activities of daily living.

    The successful candidate will return to the Work Experience section of the application and thoroughly document, in detail, that they possess the following:


    • Functional and considerable knowledge of the accepted principles of nutrition, dietetics, and food service management as well as principles of diet therapy and disease and therapeutic diets
    • Knowledge of current trends and professional practices in clinical dietetics
    • Ability to assess, design, and implement nutritional care plans for individuals
    • Ability to communicate with caregivers and various staff groups to provide training as needed

    Management Preferences:

    • One year of experience in working with adults with neuro-degenerative disorders, dementia and intellectual disabilities with complex medical and behavioral needs.
    • One year of experience providing clinical dietetic services in a skilled nursing facility setting.

    Basic Knowledge - implies familiarity with the basic principles and terminology of a field to work effectively in a limited range of work situations.


    Intermediate Knowledge - implies sufficient knowledge of the subject to enable the employee to work effectively within a normal range of standard work situations with only general supervision.


    Thorough Knowledge - The advanced comprehensive knowledge of the subject to enable the employee to work independently without direct supervision and to assume responsibility for the solution of unusual as well as commonplace work problems, advise on technical questions, and plan methods for difficult work situations.

    This degree of knowledge means that the work calls for a complete mastery and understanding of the occupational field.

    The successful candidate will return to both the Education section of the application
    AND the Work Experience section of the application and thoroughly document, in detail, that they possess the following:

    Master's degree in foods and nutrition or a related area from an appropriately accredited institution that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (
    AND)


    AND
    current registration, in good standing, administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR);

    OR

    Bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics, or related area from an appropriately accredited institution that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (
    AND)


    AND
    current registration, in good standing, administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)


    AND
    two years of experience in a clinical dietary setting.
