    Job Description


    The Division of Research & Innovation seeks a Research Development Officer (RDO) to work with faculty, researchers, and staff to pursue strategic, external research funding opportunities.

    Under direction, the RDO participates in team interactions and provides guidance and assistance in proposal preparation for multidisciplinary federal grant proposal efforts; works with faculty to increase proposal development capabilities and faculty's success in proposal submissions to federal funding agencies with a working knowledge of their research priorities; routinely conducts funding searches and distributes notices of funding opportunities to faculty; and collaborates in developing presentations or workshops on proposal-writing; facilitates the internal review process for funding opportunities limiting proposal submissions.

    This positions' salary range will be paid based on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate.

    This position is funded by a grant or restricted funding. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal or grant or restricted funding.


    Responsibilities:

    Proposal Development:
    Works collaboratively with research teams and individual researchers in developing and/or editing proposal narratives.

    Maintains boilerplate material for use in different types of proposals and works with researchers regarding the completeness of the proposal in preparation for submission.


    Research Funding Opportunities:


    Analyzes and disseminates notices of funding opportunities, RFP, etc., received from varied funding sources to the University community as appropriate.

    Keeps abreast of funding trends that occur within areas of university interest and communicates to the research community as appropriate.

    Acts as liaison between funding agencies and researchers regarding. updates/questions/clarifications related to funding opportunities.

    Administrative:
    Develops and maintains a database of faculty research capabilities and interests. Monitors both Federal and State agency news pages for updates on program initiatives and policy developments.

    Works collaboratively with the Research and Innovation leadership in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategies in alignment with the University's research goals and initiatives.

    Assists faculty in the development of multi-disciplinary proposals; facilitates the internal review process for funding opportunities limiting proposal submissions.

    Performs Other Duties as Assigned.


    Required Education & Experience:
    Bachelor's degree.
    Three years of experience proposal submission, proposal administration or related area.


    Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


    Working knowledge of standard office equipment and software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Qualtrics, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

    Ability to work cooperatively with people from diverse backgrounds.
    Organizational skills.
    Ability to independently make decisions.
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    Demonstrated ability to develop grant proposals to external agencies.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    Master's degree or Doctoral degree.
    More than three years experience writing, editing, and/or developing competitive proposals to federal, state, or industry.
    Experience working with university research administration and faculty and developing multidisciplinary research grant proposals to federal funding agencies.
