- Serves as liaison between the Department and the city garage
- Ensures that motor vehicles have required oil changes
- Ensures that motor vehicles have required state inspections
- Ensures that motor vehicles had required warranty service
- Inspects vehicles damaged or wrecked, including undercarriage inspection.
- Coordinates repair services for vehicles damaged or wrecked
- Ensures all vehicles receive monthly inspection, with documentation on required Department forms
- Maintains supplies of required fleet equipment, including emergency flares and tire chains
- Distributes required fleet equipment as needed
- Responds to complaints about difficulties with vehicles
- Inspects new vehicles before they are placed in service
- Installs police vehicle equipment as needed
- Disburses new vehicles into the fleet
- Makes appointments for vehicle repair or service
- Requests new equipment as needed or required
- Completes Vacorp Incident Forms
- Distributes gas cards
- Replaces lost or stolen gas cards
- Requests maintenance of police vehicle parking areas as needed
- Maintains vehicle markings and decals
- Ensures vehicles are maintained in accordance with accreditation standards
- Conducts monthly vehicle inspections for required equipment and overall condition
- Maintains monthly mileage on vehicles and by Department division
- Gathers data for entry on oil changes, mileage, shop records and maintains computer files of this data
- Maintains records of vehicle accidents and damage
- Assists in the follow-up investigation of police vehicle collisions
- Advises shift or unit supervisors of evidence of negligence in the care of police vehicles
- Recommends or requires that unsafe vehicle conditions be repaired before the vehicle is returned to service
- Transports supplies to the Department

Description
The City of Roanoke's Police Department is seeking a Fleet Coordinator to ensure that all of the Police vehicles. are in-service and maintained to keep them operationally ready. Vehicles need to be in the best possible condition, present a positive public image and meet safety accreditation and vehicle durability requirements. The Fleet Coordinator regularly works in coordination with the City's Fleet Management. This position is a civilian position within the Roanoke City Police Department and candidates will be subject to a full police background investigation and supervised by the Records/Property Sergeant.

Examples of Duties
The Fleet Coordinator performs about one third of the duties in a restricted space, climate controlled office. The Fleet Coordinator is regularly outdoors regardless of the season of year. Frequent motion is required, including walking, bending, crawling, lifting and carrying items. The Fleet Coordinator is frequently expected to be on their feet for six or more hours of the day. The Fleet Coordinator must be able to bend over vehicle engine and trunk compartments while performing maintenance therein. The Fleet Coordinator must be able to lift and carry objects up to 40 lbs repetitively. Work is generally performed on the day shift, Monday through Friday, but occasional alteration of hours to accommodate vehicle service requirements is necessary.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with a major in auto-body repair desirable but not required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to prepare reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with groups of customers or employees of organization. Fluency in Spanish is beneficial.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
