    About the job
    Twilio is growing rapidly and seeking a Vice President of Engineering for Twilio-Segment, our industry leading Customer Data Platform. The Segment Core, Vice President of Engineering, leads the engineering organization that drives product development execution, infrastructure, liability, operations and efficiency via software across Segment Core through focused execution, effective collaboration and influence across engineering groups throughout Twilio. This leader will be accountable for product reliability and infrastructure, product development and delivery, managing budgets, growing and developing your team, and business impact. You will be a critical member of the Segment Core and Data & Growth leadership team, reporting to the GM of Twilio-Segment Core.
    Responsibilities
    In this role, you'll:
    Deliver industry leading product innovation, technical scale, and simplicity for partner integrations, our customer data pipeline & platform, real time event & object oriented data processing, data storage, and exceptional external and internal developer experiences.
    Accountable for overall security of platform in collaboration with the Twilio Security team
    Lead and grow a global organization of best-in-class engineering Leaders, managers and individual contributors - a team of about 200 and doubling in the next year or two.
    Identify and qualify new products, services, and processes to improve product development, product reliability, performance engineering, incident management, and observability solutions.
    Interact extensively across all functional teams within Twilio and have significant exposure to our executive leadership.
    Ensure the consistent exercise of appropriate judgment and discretion in evaluating opportunities, measuring progress, and holding your organization and others accountable for delivering a world class customer experience.
    Work closely with senior leadership and product teams to enable our engineers to ship fast and predictably with confidence, while ensuring the efficient use of resources and providing an amazing customer experience, even in times of crisis.
    You will be a Twilio technical ambassador, a recognized leader in reliability, quality, sustainability, and operational excellence

    Required:
    10 years of hands on software engineering and engineering management experience, preferably delivering a highly scalable service with billions of daily transactions
    10 years of operational experience, running large scale distributed systems such as Kubernetes and related systems across multiple global and regionalized instances
    10 years of experience creating and scaling data platforms and pipelines, ETL systems, and partner integrations
    Experience scaling engineering organizations from 200 to 400 engineers and managing a global footprint of engineering teams (including India)
    Bachelor's degree in CS, EE or equivalent experience required.
    Desired:
    Proven track record of setting and meeting aggressive goals
    Proven experience in building, launching and operating complex distributed systems at scale
    Extensive experience providing technical direction to teams and stakeholders and aligning organizational priorities
    Demonstrated success mentoring engineering leaders cross-organizationally
    Proven track record of balancing long-term critical thinking with tactical execution of multiple development plans
    Demonstrated success building and maintaining a platform that services both customers and internal stakeholders.
    High-growth technology company experience, ideally in a platform company that has scaled to hundreds of millions of users, using a public cloud such as AWS and a modern tech stack including microservices and containerization
    Highly analytical with the ability to translate between strategic business decisions and their quantitative implications
    Ability to think critically and objectively; excellent problem solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions based on business demands
    Rigorous, great organizational skills, comfortable with ambiguity
    Ability to distill complex issues into structured frameworks and concrete action plans
    Excellent communication and social skills, ability to be personable yet persistent
    Location
    This role will be based in the US remote or located near one of our US offices. We have a remote-first work environment.
