    Description

    Summary



    This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

    The registered nurse (staff nurse) is directly responsible to the designated manager in the assigned Medical/Surgical area; the registered nurse is responsible and accountable for the provision of direct patient care and for the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran patient population that reflect the educational, experiential and competency requirements.

    The registered nurse possesses basic knowledge and skills to apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting which will then enable effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and attainment of optimal levels of functioning and/or support of the dying patient and significant others. As an entry level position, the nurse is committed to continued professional development. Role responsibilities and accountabilities also include demonstration of knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of patients served in the assigned area of practice. This knowledge includes understanding changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population.

    The Registered Nurse - Med/Surg (3N) / Telemetry (5T):

    • Delivers safe care to assigned patients.
    • Formulates a plan of care based on nursing assessments.
    • Makes assignments and directs activities of other unit staff (RNs, LPNs, students, PSAs, and other team members).
    • Documents the nursing process.
    • Manages nursing care of patients.
    • Effectively directs the flow of patient care and nursing resources.
    • Effectively implements health promotion, prevention practices, and management of acute and chronic illnesses.
    • Establishes patient care priorities that ensure safe and effective patient care.
    • Seeks opportunities to increase knowledge and develop professionally.
    • Attains optimal levels of functioning.
    • Supports the dying patient and significant others.
    • Treats all patients and families with dignity and respect.
    • Maintains professional boundaries with patients, families, and employees.
    • Acts as a patient advocate when patient self-determination is questioned.
    • Commits to continued professional development.
    • Understands changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of patients served in the assigned area of practice.

    Pay Scale: NN54

    Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards

    Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

    Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

    Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

    Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
