UPMC Shadyside, a three-time Magnet-designated hospital, is currently hiring both graduate and experienced Registered Nurses to support the Stem Cell Transplant unit, 6 West.

About the Position & Unit:
6 West is an oncology unit that specializes in stem cell transplants, car-t cell infusions, and _cutting-edge research_ . It is a fast-paced unit that is moving cancer care forward.

Patient diagnoses include a robust oncology population specializing in hematological cancers. Nurses will attend training to administer chemotherapy as well as Stem Cell Transplant classes.

There are plenty of opportunities for growth and development through continued education opportunities and certification as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) and/or Blood and Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN).

Our Registered Nurses work rotating shifts including weekends/holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor. _Title and salary will be determined based on education and nursing experience. _

The minimum rate of pay for a non-BSN Professional Staff Nurse is $31.60.


Responsibilities:

Serves as a highly engaged and full partner on the care team and responds willingly to care, team member, needs for assistance and partnership. • Actively participates in department or unit-specific quality improvement efforts. Identifies opportunities for quality improvement to colleagues and management. Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to support improvement in clinical care identifies research issues or articles related to clinical specialty or areas of interest, discusses opportunities for quality improvement at multidisciplinary rounds, and influences patients' plans of care.
• Graduate Nurses who are eligible for the State Board Licensure and Staff Nurses with nursing experience will be considered for this position. Please note that the below salary may vary pending years of experience and education of the selected candidate.
• Associate's Degree in Nursing, BSN, or MSN is required.
• The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately with the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, and handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
• Critical thinking skills are necessary to exercise and to lead others in the application of the nursing process. Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located.
• UPMC-approved national certification is preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
